"Finding" old Geocities sites

Geocities used to host a lot of IL-2 content it seems and when they went down in 2009 all of the content was lost; or was it? Actually no it is not completely lost if you know where to look. There are sites that Archived, other than the Internet Archive, several old Geocities sites. The Archive domain where I have had the most success in recovering files is with the Geocities.ws domain.

Examples:
Redtails 99th Pursuit Squadron

Original Link: http://www.geocities.com/rt_bearcat/index-2.html

Archived link: http://www.geocities.ws/rt_bearcat/index-2.html
(Notice that the archived link is .ws)

psob’s site for IL-2

Original Link: http://www.geocities.com/psob2x/

Archived link: http://www.geocities.ws/psob2x/
(Notice that the archived link is .ws)

Unlike the Internet Archive when I go to the .ws archived sites most of the links still work. I seem to be running around sixty percent recovery with these links but that is a whole lot better than the Zero percent you end up with when using the old .com links. So if you come across an old Geocities link for a website that sounds interesting you may well be able to view and download any files that were available all those years ago. Just change the .com portion of the URL to .ws and if you are lucky the site will appear as it did right before the Geocities site went down. :sunglasses:

This wiki article has other urls that archived Geocities sites.
GeoCities Archive team: https://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=GeoCities

Just for S’ & Giggles here is @adlabs6 old Geocities website at the Internet Archive.
https://web.archive.org/web/20091027010931/http://geocities.com/adlabs6/B/
Unfortunately I am unable to find it saved at any of the other Archive sites and none of the links work at the Internet Archive version.
