It was a slow Sunday morning…
So I took a deep dive into the archives.

Gotta love the Dicta Boelcke and map!

There is some really nice artwork in this manual!

Oh! I found the PDF too…

Many thanks to @Troll for finding the PDF. It wasn’t quite how I remembered it, but still one of the most well put together PDF manuals ever. It is actually designed to be viewed as a PDF, with vertical scrolling. You can see see in the last image Troll posted above, that the top of the plane on the left page, matches with the plane on the right page.

Screen shot from the PDF

With the push to electronic manuals rather than paper ones for the last 20 years, I’m amazed that so few publishers and studios create manuals to be read in a native electronic format.

Done! First day buy!

Yeah, and a HP 0/400. Bombers will be fun! A lot of nice mission content in attacking, escorting or flying bombers…

Although it will take a while. Going to be fun re-living the history.

New and larger maps is also good news. I don’t see it mentioned, but I hope we’ll get seasons too.

Jason makes promises about a Flying Circus vol. 3 as well. The way I read his post is that the career will probably not be finished until FC3.

Would love to see an updated channel map from ROF with the flying boats

Absolutely! Maybe in vol.4?
Come to think of it, maybe they could use the Normandy map as a base…?

Yeah, would also be fun to ferry an SE5 across the channel to France as did Cecil Lewis.

Yes and they were Messerschimitts.

I started my career flying the Fokker 50 turboprop…
You could hear the snicker in other pilots voices when they replied to ATC giving traffic information about us.

“We have that Fokker in sight”

As many surnames are, Fokker is actually a profession. It means “breeder”, like a horsebreeder. So yeah.

Douglas Bader our first disabled fighter pilot was speaking at an up market girls School as the Guest of honour.

“’So there were two of the f…ers behind me, three f…ers to my right, another f…er on the left,’ he told the audience. The headmistress went pale and interjected: ‘Ladies, the Fokker was a German aircraft.’ Sir Douglas replied: ‘That may be madam, but these f…ers were in Messerschmitts’.

If I might interject my favorite pronunciation aide. It is for the American city of Norfolk, pronounced nothing like her English namesake and nearly universally mispronounced outside of Virginia. So imagine a generic eponymous high school in that town. Now further imagine a row of cheerleaders at a Friday night game–pom poms, lip gloss and not much else. And their cheer:

“We don’t drink!”
“We don’t smoke!”
NOR-folk!"
NOR-folk!"

Now you’ll never get it wrong.

…and that’s why I lived in Virginia Beach. Though we spent the whole time I was in Virginia trying to figure out how to steal one of these (found all along the oceanfront on Atlantic Avenue and the boardwalk adjacent to the beach):
