Done! First day buy!

Yeah, and a HP 0/400. Bombers will be fun! A lot of nice mission content in attacking, escorting or flying bombers…

Although it will take a while. Going to be fun re-living the history.

New and larger maps is also good news. I don’t see it mentioned, but I hope we’ll get seasons too.

Jason makes promises about a Flying Circus vol. 3 as well. The way I read his post is that the career will probably not be finished until FC3.

Would love to see an updated channel map from ROF with the flying boats

Absolutely! Maybe in vol.4?
Come to think of it, maybe they could use the Normandy map as a base…?

Yeah, would also be fun to ferry an SE5 across the channel to France as did Cecil Lewis.

Yes and they were Messerschimitts.

I started my career flying the Fokker 50 turboprop…
You could hear the snicker in other pilots voices when they replied to ATC giving traffic information about us.

“We have that Fokker in sight”

As many surnames are, Fokker is actually a profession. It means “breeder”, like a horsebreeder. So yeah.

Yep. I got 2 kids. Did plenty of fokki…never mind. Not worth getting banned

Oh yes you’re a great fokker you are.

Did not know that! And how appropriate!

Douglas Bader our first disabled fighter pilot was speaking at an up market girls School as the Guest of honour.

“’So there were two of the f…ers behind me, three f…ers to my right, another f…er on the left,’ he told the audience. The headmistress went pale and interjected: ‘Ladies, the Fokker was a German aircraft.’ Sir Douglas replied: ‘That may be madam, but these f…ers were in Messerschmitts’.

If I might interject my favorite pronunciation aide. It is for the American city of Norfolk, pronounced nothing like her English namesake and nearly universally mispronounced outside of Virginia. So imagine a generic eponymous high school in that town. Now further imagine a row of cheerleaders at a Friday night game–pom poms, lip gloss and not much else. And their cheer:

“We don’t drink!”
“We don’t smoke!”
NOR-folk!"
NOR-folk!"

Now you’ll never get it wrong.

…and that’s why I lived in Virginia Beach. Though we spent the whole time I was in Virginia trying to figure out how to steal one of these (found all along the oceanfront on Atlantic Avenue and the boardwalk adjacent to the beach):

@smokinhole @schurem

I made a wrong choice last fall and went for Star Wars Squadrons instead of Flying Circus. It turned out to not match my extended stick setup well.

There is NOW a Spring sale with a HUGE discount on Flying Circus Vol. I (probably because of Vol. II release). 27 USD instead of 80.

Do you guys still fly this or should I not try to split my limited sim time across even more sims?

It is unlikely I’ll fly this more than a few hours single player, given the Mi-8 and M-2000 campaigns I have ongoing, the A-4 and the upcoming Mi-24.

Yet you still should get it. If only for the experience of a sopwith camel in combat in VR. Worth the price of admission even for ten minutes of that imo.

Yeah , open cockpits are killer in VR . I never appreciated how narrow a biplane’s wingspan is until Flying Circus .
Still , DCS 2.7 is gonna be getting all my love for the foreseeable future-absolutely incredible !

It is definitely NOT worth the full price. Having said that I do play it often. Last week I had four hours of peak joy flying with and against friends in this year’s Bloody April campaign. So, yes, I am enjoying it but still, it’s a mess. If it was simply a VR-capable RoF, I would endorse it as a triumph. But is half the game of RoF with less than half the content. The damage model is hugely frustrating, especially if you fly Entente. And there is very little single-player appeal—a situation helped somewhat by Patrick Wilson’s Campaign Generator. That’s my honest appraisal. Get it on the cheap and enjoy it for what it is.

Considering RoF was in active development for over a decade and has some 40 DLC aircraft at about $5 each, with a $2 mod package for almost every plane, any comparison with Flying Circus should take this into account. IMO.
FC is not as far along as RoF. Of course not. How could it be? But it’s being developed by the same guys who made RoF, and it has all the potential to become the ”new” RoF.
RoF didn’t start out with all that what made it the incredible sim it became. It was, in fact, a buggy mess at initial release.

I like FC and I play it. But at the same time I’m also looking forward to vol. II and hopefully III & IV, etc.

Just my two cents and to each their own and all that.
