And quite the artist too. Some of those skins are remarkable.
1C Game Studios is having a 50% off sale for Flying Circus. I’ve been on the fence for a while but this is an offer I can not pass up on!
Again! 50% on their site and on Steam!
I might actually get it this time, should be fun air-karate in VR. Who flies this, or will soon?
@schurem do you have this yet?
FC1 is a lot of fun, and I enjoy it more than I did RoF. It now comes with two scripted campaigns as well.
It’s like karate inside a phonebooth, with guns.
I do too . No idea how to run an airquake server with it tho. I also can’t hit fark-all with those popguns. Is fun tho!
And when you invite @schurem to a poker game he will ask ”is it that the game you play with cards?”
Sorry, no I-16s allowed lol. I love to play WW1 fighter games. So impossible, so satisfying, so slow till you get up close!
Them’s fightin’ words @Troll, we need to get us a 1918 Fight Club then! Vickers at 80 paces my good man!
I think it is time I get back into WW1 dancing. Enjoyed ROF during it’s day and have been watching this for some time. For some reason, I’ve felt the urge to watch the old movie “The Blue Max.”
He said
… the finest fighter pilot movie of all time. No CGI, and Bruno Stachel deals with a surly squadron commander by shooting down more enemy aircraft, while ensuring that everyone knew the score. Which would have been fine, had he not made the fatal mistake of sleeping with the wing commander’s wife. Lots to learn in this one.
Circus open-cockpit flying is great in VR . Not so crazy about the terrain , tho . The buildings all seem to be on a (geometric) plane .
I knew it!
I guess when it’s financially viable for the developers to make it.
@777Studios_Jason, what do you think?
Does FC offer much over ROF? The modern RoF offers a fairly polished experience and I like the variety of taskings that are available (it’s been neat to see it grow to it’s current version). I picked up WOFF to have something with a bit more “life” if you will. I don’t care as much about graphics (and I don’t fly VR so that’s not an issue). So I’ve been left wondering if FC really has anything extra to offer compared to RoF?
VR mainly. The map in FC covers an area that includes Arras that’s a bit smaller in area than the main RoF map. But the detail is considerably better and the overall look is a generation ahead of RoF. The flight models feel very similar–maybe identical but it has been 5 years since I’ve played RoF so my memory might be off. I’d say that if you have IL2:BoX and are curious about the WWI stuff, get FC. If you don’t, and especially if VR is not high on your list, get RoF.
Like @smokinhole says, mainly VR. I’d like to add ”future” to what FC has to offer.
That future is debatable though. Flying Circus vol. 1 is just the beginnings of a sequel to RoF. If there will be a vol. 2 remains to be seen. In a way, RoF is the biggest competitor to FC. Mainly because it has been expanded and polished for so many years.
Some people compare the two and complain about the lack of content in FC, compared to RoF. But they forget that RoF started small as well. RoF didn’t just happen. It evolved over several years. If the RoF players want a WWI flightsim that will expand into the future, they must invest in FC. If not, I doubt we’ll see a vol. 2, just like RoF would’ve died out if we didn’t buy the expansions.
Here’s the announcement of FC.
So, ask not what FC will offer today, but what it will offer tomorrow. Then decide if you want that to happen…
I am repeating myself but 777 is a victim of their own generosity in my opinion. I disagree that Flying Circus was a cash-grab. If it was then 777 would have placed a “drops dead on” date for RoF. People would have complained violently but where else would they have gone? There is no WWI alternative except possibly WOFF–which has no multiplayer capability. 777 decided not to do that and furthermore they continue to hammer nails into the FC coffin by selling RoF on the cheap and with continued support. Not only that but they promote the excellent and free, 3rd party PWCG. No… 777 might be guilty o some flaws here and there but gouging their fans is not one of them.
My old IRFC squad enjoyed an impromptu but brief reunion on the Flying Circus server yesterday. 45 players were on. Quite a show!
