Flying Circus -The Spiritual sequel to RoF!

The factory towed the single engine aircraft from their site to the acceptance park at Bracebridge Heath. They were towed behind cars with the wings off. The wings were on trailers behind a second car.

When they were told to produce 0/400, 0/1500 and Vimy aircraft they had a problem, the aircraft were too large to go down the streets even with the wings removed. They therefore built a new airstrip on waste ground near the factory. The site of the airstrip is still there, a narrow piece of land between two waterways, and it is still known as ‘Handley Page Field’ as only the large aircraft were flown off from the factory. They carried minimal fuel for the five minute flight to the Acceptance Park… Clayton and Shuttleworth’s Factory is also still there. The fortunes made during the war by ‘Clayton Shuttleworth’ eventually becoming the finance behind the Shuttleworth collection of vintage aircraft and vehicles as well as Old Warden Airfield itself.

The airstrip is the land between the two rivers

Wow, I never knew that. I always just thought it was an ‘old money’ family. Never realised that there was a connection in that way

Richard Shuttleworth inherited the big house, estate, cash and company as a single child. He died in a flying training accident in WW2 having created an impressive collection before WW2. He was rather like Kermit Weeks but with an early death. Having no other heirs, his mother created the charitable trust that is now Shuttleworth. For those not acquainted think Old Reinbeck on steroids but much more. And no landing fees

I would also drag you to IBCC, a FIDO airfield and Petwood House. 1 Airborne Division Signals Squadron were billeted in my village pre Arnhem. The Reconnaissance Squadron in Ruskington.

I forgot, Petwood has a big Norwegian connection via the Tirpitz @Troll

Between us we could fly him and his family in to Old Warden. That would put anyone off! Perhaps @Hangar200 could come with his lady as well?

Yet it contained everything that was promised…

It is. It means that FC vol. 1 wasn’t a ”Cash grab”, after all…

At least the eyes of the WWI flightsim enthusiasts.

What do you say, B12?
Maybe cut Jason and 1C/777 a little slack, in the future

I don’t know why you even bring that up? Nobody is falling out over this?

Well, here’s where I completely and utterly disagree.

I know no developer who doesn’t welcome constructive criticism.
But constantly complaining and accusing them of taking the customers money and not deliver, is not being constructive. At least not if the accusations are made without evidence to support them.
You are of course welcome to make these accusations. Nobody here is stopping you. But you should be aware of the fact that you are discouraging others from buying the game, and that is what developers react to. Sales. If their product doesn’t sell, they will not continue developing it. That’s what drives any commercial business. They don’t develop products to stop a few complaints.

So no, I don’t agree that you have helped furthering the future of Flying Circus. Quite the contrary. But that’s my view.

And if you make accusations and complaints, you should expect and accept counter comments, from those who doesn’t agree with you.
This is not falling out with each other. It’s simply a discussion between like minded persons of opposite views.

Now I’m really looking forward to some information, about Flying Circus vol. 2!

Again… You’re not. Ok?

And you do. And you are allowed to.

What happened there was people expressing their views about a modern flightsim being announced without even TrackIR support, and why they wanted to wait until that was confirmed before buying. They expressed criticism and you countered. That’s not hounding anybody. It’s precisely what you’re doing here, with FC.
The difference being that their criticism was based on facts. Track IR and VR wasn’t mentioned by the developers. Your criticism of FC, that it was a cash grab and wouldn’t continue to be developed, was not based on facts as the developers had yet to make such announcements. Do you see the difference?

No, but I have pre-purchased several of their products. Does that count?
Do you have shares with Microsoft or Asobo?

Let others have their say.
Let me have my say.
Goes both ways…

This isn’t me moderating you. We’re having a discussion where we disagree. We both say what we mean. That’s not moderation.

Your opinion is as valued as anyones. I hope mine is too…

Disagreements are fine. I had RoF and never really got into it. So, for me, it was a bit of a waste of money. I am cautiously optimistic about this sequel because I have a feeling it will be a great fit in the flight sim product categories and I look forward to trying it out.

Nobody called anyone a traitor. People CAN agree to disagree.

Indeed. This sort of overheated rhetoric is a large part of what is wrong with modern life imo. We would do ourselves and each other a great service by understating emotions and opinions instead of wildly overstating them.

@B12 please don’t take this post as piling on. I respect and appreciate you and your point of view a lot. Heck I even like the strength of emotion you often express when it comes to our shared interests. It is much of thing at times tho

Rise of Flight’s original PDF manual was beautiful. I am still trying to find someone who has the first edition PDF, if anyone does please let me know. And if you’re not sure, believe me you’d know what I was talking about if you had it.

I have the 1.030 rev.1. Can’t remember which was the first?

Edit: I found the 1.023 rev.1 and the RoF ICE manual.

These may or may not be the ones you remember @jenrick? I uploaded these RoF Ice manuals to my MediaFire account in February 2011 so they are definitely one of the oldest set of manuals if not the oldest ones available.

Here is Panthercules Useful Materials thread at the RoF forum.

Yeah, they always said a career would have to wait until later volumes, if the first was successful. And the official IL-2 facebook account have said that it’s in the plans for vol. 2. But I guess we’ll have to wait for the official announcement…
As you may have noticed, WWI aviation is rather close to my heart, too.
