FlyJSim 727 Series Professional v3

Just bought this upgrade this morning in order to do some “work” for the magazine. Wow…it is so awesome. I shouldn’t be surprised because v1 and v2 were great. The sound set is just amazing. My framerates are just superb and I love the simplicity and speed with which you can manipulate everything in the cockpit (heading bugs, altitude, etc…)…

My first (and not very good) landing at Twenty Nine Palms in a lightly loaded 727. Not sure why the FPS “hitches” in the video…might have something to do with the 4K rendering…but it is glass smooth in game.

Now I gotta go open up @Chuck_Owl’s 727 guide and start reading up!

P3D or XP11?

XP11

Yeah…it is wonderful in XP-11 just because of that XP feeling flight model. Very dynamic…

Love it. Throw it in heading mode, IAS hold, engage the autopilot, and just monitor the EPR… Something really satisfying about flying something that is so straightforward and doesn’t have you spending 20 minutes programing an FMC or wondering “what is it doing?”… I did, however, buy the $10 CIVA, so I will have to dive into that (I know we have some tutorials here by @TheAlmightySnark and others!

Hey…with the vast quantity of information you have churned out…you have earned the right to make a mistake or two. Jeez…I’ve flown the King Air and Citation for more than 20 years and I still get corrected on things I thought were one way, but are in fact the other way. Just the nature of complex things…

I know, but it’s always frustrating when mistakes like that happen to be so public… The thing with guides like this is that I only tend to focus on what I haven’t got right instead of what I’ve got right.

Aah such a fun aircraft and plenty of power too! Those three engines really do you well in most situations.

There’s this website that I can’t find right now that has a host of stories and diagrams and charts and what not based on real life experience by 727 pilots. It’s wonderful!

Oooh woops, we did get it wrong indeed!

Arrived safely in PHX. Ready to pick up 40,000 lbs. worth of DVDs to take to the last Blockbuster in Alaska…

A tear rolls down my cheek - USAirways planes…sniffle…

With the 727 (and to a lesser extent, the longer 737s), since the gear is behind the CG, flaring your way out of a high sink rate will only make the landing harder, and bouncier. A blast of power is sometimes the only save. But I like the ugly landing in your video. It looked very authentic. You get a real sense of the mass of the machine.

The days, I rarely go down the rabbit hole of anything larger than Lear. But seeing that wing come all apart in landing configuration, listening to the sounds in your video, and admiring that panel that looks so familiar, I’m going to make an exception this time.

@BeachAV8R, what are you using to capture your sim video?

I spent many, many hours flying the Dreamfleet 727 back in the day. Great memories.

I checked this FlyJSim 727 out… looks like a beautiful package.

I used FRAPS, which is probably a very old CODEC, and Shotcut to render the video to upload. I should probably give Shadow Play a whirl as I think it would give better results with regards to smoothness…

By the way…that was a flap 40 landing, which was apparently sort of not the norm for the 727…usually it is flap 30. I was landing at KTNP though, which is sorta short, so I used 40…

Yeah flap 40 is usually too much

I think that is the bane of every creator - always seeing the mistakes and not what others see. Every piece of furniture that I have made is the same way. My father paints - same thing. My mom knits - same thing.

This month I’ve been doing nothing but Flaps 40–just to be a masochist (and by extension, sadist). When I brief my intention to the FO, he/she has been looking at me like I have two heads. It’s good practice though and I try to get them to do the same–so far without success  . Apparently 40 is much easier in the Max but I haven’t flown it yet.
