More the merry here at MS!

Joined the party just before Factory fell into our hands. Did mostly resupply missions in the CH-47 and one SAR in the Huey. I learned from Jenrick that the CH-47 doesn’t like a heavy load - I had three zone supplies in the cargo bay and the flight was less than stable. A steady rudder input helped a lot to keep the helo in trim! Then, I did another resupply to Abu al-Duhur and when unloading the second zone supply, the Chinook toppled over, from my point of view for no good reason - I did not touch the controls. Now the server is about to get restarted for daylight conditions.

Some screens:

And from chipwich (UH-60) and jenrick (A-10) and his victims…

If I knew how to turn on the instrument lights in the A-10 that would have been a lot more fun. If I was more current, the Harrier would have been perfect for that with the FLIR. But I’d have spent a good bit trying to figure out how to shoot a mav.

Fun evening on the server with some great friends..! I started out as a man on a mission to take out Substation West with some unconventional tactics. I stole the keys to one of the Leopard tanks about 30 miles north of Substation West and made the 30 minute drive south to find a good firing position..

I was still very far away..greater than the max range on the laser rangefinder of 5000 meters..so too far..but close enough to lob sabot rounds that far and make some corrections for hits.. It was pretty darn fun…

Of course..the enemy didn’t dig it..and countered with anti-aircraft artillery..which was surprisingly accurate and scary…

Came back to the ridgeline..scored another few hits..then ran myself out of sabot rounds…

Which meant I had to get closer for HEAT rounds..and an anti-tank missile came zipping out of the compound and killed me…

@Sryan then flew CAP over me for an hour while we played cat and mouse with an overwhelming amount of RED air. I was in the A-10A trying to finish up what I had started at Substation West, but every time I put my nose to make a run..RED air would come scare me off. @Sryan was able to get some kills and exhaust their fuel and finally they relented..

The @fearlessfrog jumped in to help out..scoring quite a few A2A kills.

RED Air gave a good showing on their own though…proving to be pretty good in the close in knife fights…

Rescuing myself after getting shot down..

Eye to eye with @chipwich

@jenrick with a great assist in getting a Su-27 off of @fearlessfrog …always an accomplishment getting an A2A kill in the Hog…

A great cooperative time with all of us pitching in to make quick work of taking Factory (31)…

Twice I was able to spot launches or Zeus fire from the site and put Mavericks down the throat of the launchers. With two or three aircraft harassing a site..the divide and conquer strategy works pretty well…

Rescuing downed pilots…

@Derbysieger looking pretty spiffy in his F-4…

My last sortie of the night..tried to get a shot off on an SA-2 site but I played chicken too long…

It was a great time! Looking forward to playing again tomorrow.. Server reset at about 0530 UTC so it should be good for 12 hours or so of daylight. Have fun guys!

The flying continued into the morning of Europe.

Jenrick and I on the ramp of Abu al-Dahar.

Resupplying factory.

Next establishing a FARP closer to Jirah.

Establishing stinger teams along the supply lines.

Firing at some pesky Mirages that try to pester my Huey.

I made it out, the Mirage not.

Status after jenrick called it a night and I head for more coffee:

Seeing that Papa is fully supplied I think I will poke at India in a bit, try to finish the SEAD mission or go back to Jirah … mhhh

The astute reader may have noticed that a lot of work was put in by others..

(I just threw the bomb in the general direction of the airfield, the frog guided it while getting shot at by Flankers and Fulcrums)

..in my name..

.. giving me credits for their effort.

I had spawned the zone crates but forgotten to load them, which I only found out after landing at neutral Abu Al Duhur 15 minutes later. @komemiute kindly picked them up and thus provided me with the full credits for bringing repair crew and fresh dog food from Taftanaz.

I love going through a cold start procedure in some platform or another..getting airborne..and looking out on the wings and realizing I never loaded weapons.

Gonna head into the server for a bit..will only be 2D w/ no voice for a bit until I join in VR later. More “experimentation”…..

I’m actually not sure how and why this happens. It isn’t anything I’ve changed on the server as far as settings..it just sort of happens. I don’t know why the server list doesn’t always show KMAS-Mudspike on it..

I just left, having smashed a bunch of crawlies that were shooting rockets into Abu al Duhur. Emptied a viper, a hog and a harrier at them without losing any airframes! As I logged off, November had gone neutral and @komemiute was inbound on Abu with a load of rescued airmen.

Doing zuni rocket runs is just so much fun. Only S24 from the Frogfoot beats that. Or Tiny Tim from the Corsair

Last night, @BeachAV8R went up to take care of the substation.. Allegedly only a few stragglers left, the worst air defenses had been taken care of..

But it was a complete hell, CAP-wise. Me all alone against 5+ fighters at all times. I managed to kill a few with sidewinders of all things, because they were so aggressive they would fly themselves into them while chasing me and Beach around.

As it more and more proved to be impossble to let Beach hunt over the substation, I swapped out for a Tomcat to deal with the numerical superiority of the enemy. The Substation was still contested as I had to leave for the night.

I did that a couple of times. And the last time I took off with all AA missiles loaded last night, I could not get any of the aa fire control mode started. Had to rtb and call it a day. Yeah, enemy’s air force seemed to exerted an all out effort last night.

Is HARM considered illegal…or scorned upon at least…? Asking for a friend…

Here’s the full lists

No harms, aim120’s, just L for sidewinders, laser mavericks, jdams basically.

That was epic, saved not only my bacon but my four trotters and squiggly tail too! Red AI always comes in pairs so if you only have AIM7F keeping a lock on the lead means the 2nd can get away. I was doing a stall turn with the remaining SU27 and was toast - looked down into the circle and a surprise A10A rushed in to save me. Awesome stuff.

PS Sparrow f’s suck.

I see you haven’t been introduced to the glorious AIM-7E, even the AIM-7E-2 is hot sh*t in comparison :joy:

Edit: On a related note, I love the hefty ka-chunk and airframe shudder when you release one from the front fuselage stations on the Phantom. It feels so visceral

Got you. Thanks. In the list, the ones with a dash in front are not allowed.

I guess for sead I’ll try some low level 1000lb tossing. I can hardly get an ir mav to lock on anything in a hornet before I get too close

That should work very well in the Hornet and Viper. I’ve had good success in the Phantom going low level with mavericks to take out the SHORADS and then use pop-up attacks to kill the long range SAMs with bombs

Normal people see a tanker truck… I see an SA-10 silo…

Normal people see a power plant…I wonder where the SA-8 is…
