Obligations for the weekend over.. Time to sneak in a sortie. It’s zero dark thirty but the sun will come through soon.
80’s mean no TGP, no HTS, no AMRAAM. Just winders and the HARM.
I get a shot off at some SA-8 out there but the foxbats are not too happy. I am severely severely outranged and kite them all over cyprus. We don’t have Hawks anywhere which makes sense with the budgets we are working with. Only stingers and oddly an SA-11 out there somewhere. But a Navy F-14 is rushing in to help and they merge in darkness. I turn around to help… peak on my radar screen and find the baddies.. Total darkness, sidewinder screaming at me, RWR screaming at me.. Scary but I try to push into constraints. That will never happen. When they shoot me, I shoot them and I break off.
I got very lucky.. The F14 splashed one, I splashed the other. The tomcat and I live. Somewhere in cyprus I even managed to knock down an SA-8 and SA-19 with those HARMs I fired way earlier.
Doing this with only sidewinders is fun but I am wondering if the avionics and datalinks are still too modern for what I’m trying to do. I know the jets had IDM quite early on.
My insistence to use a Phantom as a bomber cost me 500 rank points today. I don’t think I made more than 300 points total today so for me it’s a net loss xD

Also, has anyone been shot down or at by a red IR missile as yet? I haven’t really seen very many and wondering if I was just being lucky or something not right on their set-up?
Well.. Yes. HARMs were introduced in 1982. Not this C model of course. This is one from at least 1993 but I don’t think it to be too unfair to use. Since we have no earlier version.
second sortie.. I forgot to bring missiles completely.. I shot my HARMs and hear about this MiG.. if he turns in on me I would be dead so I’ve no choice but to chase him and try to gun him. I got him on the radar from afar and close in in dogfight mode.
EEGS must be too modern also, but we have no LCOS sight modelled.

I pulled out and dodged the missiles.
I shot him (no screenies) and watched him limp but he ejected when he couldn’t hold it.
Mi-8 repairs the damage I did while dogfighting.
Sortie after that, I found this old mirage about and did a ton of damage to him but didn’t kill him.
After dealing with his wingman I came back to finish the job, but wanted to spare our precious sidewinders.

!#$%^ he was not part of the welcome home commitee he was here for a MiG! Who thought I was lunch.
We danced but I couldn’t even use burner I was that low on fuel.. I found a way to bail and let the phantoms play (they didn’t make it..)

I don’t really care and don’t have the domain knowledge to know as well (a great combo) but I think they were commented out in the latest AGM weapons list? I don’t think @BeachAV8R has had time to apply it in the game, and @jenrick sheets just acted as a guideline:

I will probably transition to the Tomcat, since Viper has too many modern gizmo’s that still work.
FWIW, I was using the AIM-54A Mk47’s with the Tomcat literally as the first thing I did, and I think they are also not on the ‘nice’ list either
so I might not know what I am talking about in this area.

Did that for a bunch of downed pilots. It seems not all make the march? But most do and it’s way easier to load them from level terrain.
I think the A-4 has the Shrike. I don’t object to the HARMs..again..unit/weapon platform genealogy isn’t in my wheelhouse either.. ![]()

Yes..possibly path-finding issues. I’ve seen that with some armor units that can’t seem to find their way to waypoints I’ve put down either.

I’ll get on in a bit..maybe 2200 Easter / 0300 UTC. Making some edits to the .miz file..probably still going to use the non-updated .miz simply because to go back into a newly updated, clean version means I’d have to find all of those edits I’ve already done and re-do them. Since the Syria mission is running OK-ish…I hesitate to make major changes. Going to go in right now and change some of the SAR parameters and get @jenrick his proper missiles. ![]()

I feel the A-10 should have to duke it out with RED. I mean..the mission scales as we add clients and it does become a hassle..but..shouldn’t it be a hassle? At some point one of us non-ejectors may have enough rank to call in CAP flights..so hopefully then it can get better. But..I’m trying to find a good balance in difficulty in the mission. I’m open to suggestions and input. Dynamic CAP apparently will become available at RANK=2…I’m not sure if that is one step up or two (not sure if you start at 1 or 0)…just FYI…
– If the below is true, Blue AI will NOT deliver supplies, it will ONLY be done by the player.

I had a blast being chased by the Fishbed the other day. I think I’m the only Hog driver currently, all for being visible.
Something is supplying our bases, I am assuming it’s AI.
How about bring Hawk site down to rank 2? We can’t put one down as I don’t think we have a person online of that rank. Meanwhile, red air is terrorizing Cyprus.

Angry sams in the far distance. I deployed some equipment to some base (base 4 or 5 iirc) and used the remaining space on my hercules to put down some MANPADS so it’s not so easy for all this red air to drive into our land.
A hind is caught but man does he took punishment. He ate probably 10+ stingers and flared off a bunch more before finally the tail gave in and he perished.
Brought out the tomcat again to deal with things.
Compared to the Viper I might not be bringing in any avionics that foul the fun of the playing field, but it does bring the ability to reach out and touch from very far away.
I thin the horde of mirages and fulcrums and line up some bombs, but the SAMs scare me off…
Turning me somehow in the perfect wild weasel. Phantoms roll in and attack the base equipment with Mavericks, producing many good hits. Was completely unaware of this AI strike. Gave a lively feeling to the world when it happened.
My bombing strike diagonals over the runway. the BDA master is happy and opens up more budget for us. No secondaries destroyed but lots of stuff down there got partially hurt.

We have a really tiny airbase out there, like a helicopter base or something. Decided to try flying the harrier from there (first time.. In maybe a whole year)
Believable VTOL/STOL loadout with self protection, the gun and a pair of Mk81. What happens? I get jumped by frogfoots and flankers.

For some reason I am stuck with warm sidewinders.. the lock range is not great but they work. I down them all.
Together with this AI F-15C I down some problematic jets near @jenrick’s work place.. The last one I even had to gun down while deep in bingo. I RTB’d with 150lbs of fuel left. At this time @BeachAV8R went in to do the server maintenance.
