Foothold Syria - Cold War (Discussion/AAR]

Laser hellfires are up, and IR mavs for the Harrier are a go as well. Now to run a C-130 full of supplies up to Pinarbashi to take advantage of them.

I was driving the 130 around for a bit before you joined me, about two hours ago.

Ah well that may be the answer to the supply mystery then.

Ah..so that answers my other question..we have to manually move supplies up to the new airfields/capture point FARPs in order to supply them? That was the intent…

And I guess for 1000 points you can make further bases into fully operational and stocked resupply (distribution) bases as we hopscotch across the map?

Ok..I had bumped the AI resupply quantity from 20 to 5..but there is another section in the config.lua that mentions not having AI resupply at ALL. I wonder if I need to make that 5 a 0…is that what we want? I can add it on the next .miz edit tomorrow…

What about making it a loose SOP to have the last person online take a screenshot of the map and post it here before turning in? Just an idea. Of course, I’ll be the first one to forget to do it :pleading_face:. But it would be a nice thing to review over coffee or tea in the AM.

If the goal is to have tighter supplies, yes. Paphos had 200 and something of each type of maverick this afternoon, so there definitely could be tighter supply lines

If you send me the current miz you edited I can ā€˜diff’ it with a tool and the new discord one and update it with your edits maybe? Software stuff for merging things like this happens a bit, so it won’t take me long.

Did a supply run from Akrotiri to Paphos, once more. Then assisted with the Ercan capture, albeit unneeded. Next I wanted to try the shrike once more, but the pesky SA-8s were already gone when I rolled towards the runway… Still good fun!

Anyway, took some screens from @PaulRix (MB339) and @BeachAV8R (A-10A) as well:

Ahh yes this is definitely heavily skewed towards SAR.
It seems that no matter what we hit with those 4 missiles (even if it is 4 SAMs), the bulk of our points is going to be that one pilot we pick up on the way back (plus flight time).

I guess just doubling all the kill points is a step in the right direction.

I know ground is a catch-all category, but it still irks me that killing an MBT gives less rewards than 2 guys in boots. So I’d also propose to differentiate those and keep infantry at 10.

I can’t speak for the supply stuff, haven’t done that yet so I don’t know how many of those you typically get per hour of flight time and how that compares.

-- Earning per kill by target type.
RewardContribution = {
infantry = 10,
ground = 20,
sam = 60,
airplane = 100,
ship = 400,
helicopter = 100,
crate = 100,
rescue = 200,
[ā€œZone upgradeā€] = 100,
[ā€œZone captureā€] = 200,
structure = 100,
}

OK but don’t sweat it. :+1:

I just notice that only sometimes you get the name of the pilot when you rescue them- does that mean that the unnamed ones are all AI pilots?

I think it’s a nice to have, but also I prefer to build up a sweat when it comes to this stuff- the harder the mission, the higher the skill level-up. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

HOLY HELL did I like this description! :star_struck:

Great work there. Amazing!

Don’t let it go to your head. Try to understand that every loss you can still take home some skill form the engagement. Try to re-create the skirmish in your mind and check what you could have done differently.

Sometimes you can do everything right, and still lose. I did feel like that towards the Mi-28 that kept shooting me down in my Warthog. :confused:

Had to admit it was entirely my fault- bringing down the fight in their best envelope while exposing all my weak points.

Yes, the sim can be a rollercoaster of emotions. Last night I got in a brief turning fight flying a heavily laden A-10C with a MiG-21. I managed to spoof one of his IR missiles… got my nose around on him and shot him down with an AIM-9P… and felt such elation… 30 seconds later his wingman… that I didn’t even know it was there… sent an R-3 up my tailpipe… had to eject instantly. Went from :star_struck: to :face_with_symbols_on_mouth::sob: in a few seconds… :joy:

Wonder if some of the slopes are simply too steep for foot soldiers?

Ok, I agree with this- in the Persian Gulf I felt like I had it too easy to be fair. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, seems good for me. 100 meters definitely helps… after all I’m fairly sure they’d run even twice that distance to get saved. :winking_face_with_tongue:

LOL, kinda. :smiley:

Dunno, infantry could really be down to 5 or even 2. Rifles can’t do anything to most of the aircrafts… especially when there’s mostly three of four of them.

But definitely tanks/ground units should be way more rewarding. I wish we could have a differentiation between armed/unarmed ground units. Trucks and jeeps being low value and harder targets richer.

Second this!

Last question, is there anything to be gained in attacking a node that is not the ā€œnextā€ in line? can we kinda cut through? (mostly was about Cyprus, once on the mainland there’s hardly and way to do that… too many overlapping SAMs)
