Frame Generation is a Bigger Lie Than We Ever Thought. I can Finally Prove It

Sort of a click-baity title, but the analysis is quite enlightening, and I would have loved to see him try out a few flight Sims.

The worst thing about DLSS for me in sims is that it makes the text on the instrument panels unreadable in VR. I therefore hate it and wish they’d spend more effort on actually making the raster engine work better.

But that’s not “AI”, so of course they won’t.

You could try using TAA and frame generation and see if that’s better

I am not an engineer, programmer, etc, but something always seemed

‘sus’. Didn’t watch the video BTW.

I’m still on a 3060 Ti
 no framegen for me!

I’ve been capturing a lot of MSFS 2024 video lately, and one issue that I’ve had is that at touchdown, the tires appear as if they are shredding. Initially, I suspected my flying or that I was somehow setting the parking brake before landing. This discussion of DLSS has me wondering if that is the culprit.

At least in DCS you can exclude the HUD and MFDs from DLSS, would be cool if we could exclude other flight instruments as well but at least it is something

I do wonder if it would be possible/worthwhile to render the entire cockpit at full res, and everything outside with DLSS? Probably not honestly, since that’s not how DLSS works, but it’d be a nicer experience I think?

OK, found that the main culprit of shredding tires was AMD FSR 3 for Frame Generation. Disabling DLSS did help with the image, but also resulted in -10 FPS. So, I reenabled DLSS 4 / Balanced and also enabled DLAA, which which resulted in the best image quality to performance ratio on my rig.
