Game Ready Driver 471.11

Fresh drivers! Get 'em while they’re hot

Scuttlebutt is that this one improves VR performance somehow. Sure seemed fine in a quick DCS test I just ran.

Doom pretty lights

Curious about F1 2021 as well. Nice news about Proton as well.

A quick DCS CapFrameX VR comparison as was curious.

The only truly statistically relevant lines are the v466.47 vs today’s v471.11 comparison, as they use the same windows and DCS versions.

This is just a no-inputs Caucasus Hornet Instant Action / Free Flight 60 second VR sample with an i9/2080/32GB, with nothing else but the driver version changed. Shaders deleted before each run and these samples are from each 2nd warmed up run.

Looks like Nvidia carrying on the tradition of their drivers getting slower over time for anything but the latest hardware - 2080 is getting obsoleted maybe? It could also be Windows updates over this time (I’m on 21H1, 19043.1081 as of today) plus of course DCS adding things. The average FPS is sort of not a great metric, as the 95% percentile is better for VR whoopsies.

Still, from this quick look, a driver like v466.11 is probably fastest on a 2080 for both DCS and MSFS, it’s just then you lose the DLSS etc toys on other games. If you just play sims though it might pay to just say on it or roll back… Hmm.

Yeah, a trend I see elsewhere. I’m still on 466.11 and see no reason to update, ever. At least with this dinosaur GPU I’ve got.

Huh… interesting @fearlessfrog! I wonder if someone somewhere scientifically tested for the best drivers for a 10x0 series card…

Not exactly sims, but this kind reddit person always does an extensive 10x0 comparison on each update:

I’ve had some DCS crash to desktops on this driver (both 2D and VR), and have now rolled back to 466.47.

Not sure if it’s just 2080 dependent, or something else on my system, but thought I’d say in-case it helps others. The DCS crash log will have the usual access denied error with a ‘CreateDirect3D11SurfaceFromDXGISurface’ call.

Yeah, even though I said I’d never update (see above), well, I did. I know, I know. I’m weak. But so far no issues; not smoother, not sututututerier either. Perhaps my GPU is so old it is ignored?
