So this is so weird and unexpected but Gaijin has released their game engine- used for War Thunder- completely for free.
I guess they were tired of people leaking secret documents and is just saying “There, now you do your game yourself!”

or maybe all saints day / halloween is celebrated in some countries as april fools day
I was afraid of that- I checked with a friend and yeah, it is the real deal.
They use Jolt physics (Bolt too) and Vulkan.
Oh my. And with BSD-3 license too. Anyone fancy new Mudspike Combat Simulator?
I am seriously thinking about digging out some of the dream games I always wanted to develop, but I wasn’t sure I had the right engine for…
What does this mean in layman’s terms?
Imagine war thunder without any asset.
That’s what you have.
So does that license mean that one could create a game using this engine and market it for-profit? Would it have to be open source? (I really did google it, and am still bewildered).
Disclaimer: I am not legal advisor, but let’s take a look.
It is one of the “permissive licences” and I see it that you could make your own game with the engine and sell it without royalties and it could be closed source.
