Maybe this time is the right time.

I always thought X4 was a 4C kinda game, didn’t realize it had piloting. So is this something where I can statify my urge to explore strange new worlds and make a profit trading with them?

I already put it into my cart but haven’t pushed the button yet. Probably will do that tomorrow though.

I have only done the first couple of tutorials. There is way more depth than I first thought and I will probably be spending a fair bit of time with some online/utube ‘lessons’ before I jump into it properly… at the current price it is a steal.

Just started the Terran Cadet scenario. So far so good. Decided to go mouse and keyboard this time.

So, you got schooled…

Aaand I pulled the trigger. Downloading now.

I watched two hours of tutorial videos to get into the mood and it seems that with my previous X games experience I’ll feel right at home. Although the UI changed significantly.

What is the general consensus here on the Mud Runner series? I see that Snow Runners is on sale for $15 and there is a new Expedition Runners title out too.

I never played Spintires (the original). But Played Mudrunner and Snowrunner to death.

Probably the most fun I have had with a driving sim [period]. I wouldn’t really bother with any of the DLC vehicles (unless you see one that just ‘have to have’). The season passes are probably worth it for the content but there are that many community created free vehicles, maps and ‘missions’ that you will be spoiled for choice even with just the basic game.

$15. Why haven’t you bought it yet?

I love that series. Slow and steady fun.

Sadly I get sick when I play them (probably from spinning around the camera in 3rd person).

But I played Spintires and Mudrunner and both are good fun.

Played a lot of Spintires back in the days. I liked how it just gives you a simple task, like “deliver X amount of wood to the sawmill”. Then my plan to do that was just complicated by nature - a lot. You end up fighting the odds and it feels right. All the side quests you come up by yourself.

Like:

  • Oh man, there’s a fuel truck over there! I really need it.
  • Where do I cross this river?
  • Whoops, flipped my lumber truck on its back. To the rescue!
  • Alright, let’s load this truck manually. Because I’m a man. (2 hours later…)

Etc. it drags on forever to deliver those 4 units of wood!

THIS! I loved the original Spintires and Mudrunner is even better. Never bought any follow up sadly.

The best suggestions to enjoy plying I can give you is- slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Use a joypad (or controls) with analog throttle and brakes… you move much more efficiently by just giving enough gas so that the tyres move and grip the mud rather than pushing it “pedal to the metal” and getting stuck in place fast.

This game is a puzzlegame mixed with a chess match. Don’t try to meta-game it… think.

But isn’t it oh so satisfying when you do

It is totally Zen
