On October 3rd, some Mudspikers got together on @Derbysieger’s server to combat some capitalism from our brand new MiG-29 9.12A’s. As much as I love flying that jet myself, I decided to play a different role tonight and instead guide our trusty Fulcrums as a GCI. It was a lot of fun helping guide everyone to at least one kill for the night, with Derby turning himself into an ace in one day I believe.
Three MiG’s to control I have talked Derby into a target that is east of him but has gone cold. @schurem and @tempusmurphy have his back as they are running down a target that wants to be a threat to @Derbysieger.
I had a ton of fun! I will do a bit more GCI work tomorrow 2025-10-04T17:30:00Z→2025-10-04T19:00:00Z if anyone else would love to join, and maybe some day in the future again as well. Thanks for reading
This was a lot of fun. There were no SA crutches whatsoever, no F5 view, no labels or spotting dots. Typical german weather with two thick cloud layers and rainshowers. I was blind as a bat most of the time, got killed the first time without a tally while GCI was calling merge. That was absolutely horrifying.
I also had a lot of MiG-figuring out and configuring to do. Next time, I’ll be deadlier, I promise. Still just as blind though
I have to agree trying to find a target/ running away from said target when his missiles are on the way is damn scary… @Sryan did a great job vectoring us to the target. And you can really seen the philosophy of the mig
It’s definitely not designed to hang around looking for targets
That is so blody brilliant, and indeed shows what a force multiplier is a proper AWACS (or AWACS adjacent GCI vectoring) is.
I wonder… what’s that program you used? I am away from my PC with a lousy laptop BUT… could I run it? Internet is not that bad- I could provide AWACS service for the Bluefor.
Dunno, not really necessary probably, and I do admit it would be a “Professionals” level help (equal to negative help, truthfully) but who knows.
Like others have already said it’s LotATC. I’m sure the client is pretty lightweight. It puts more of a strain on the server instead as it has to do live telemetry export. The server was handling it beautifully though. Being GCI/AWACS controller is a lot of fun actually, albeit at a slower pace than being the fighter pilot yourself. It felt a bit like being a DND dungeon master as you’re guiding your guys into winnable and enjoyable fights.
It helps a ton! Even more so on the non-datalinked MFD-absent planes. Getting AWACS instructions from you in the likes of the Phantom would be such a blessing.
I thought I’d be the same. But it was very doable to offer useful advices. Keep your guys out of danger and help them chase hostiles. The atmosphere among mudspikers on discord is very relaxed also. Everybody was bantering and exploring their MiG.
We can make it happen some day
I will investigate. Just let me know when you enable the server tonight.
I did get some stutters from time to time after I started streaming on Discord (which is terribly hardware demanding compared to using dedicated streaming software like OBS) but overall it ran really well considering I was running Tacview, hosting the DCS Server locally as well as running the SRS server and streaming on Discord
I can’t tell you enough how great it was today to have @Sryan in the crystal palace, watching over us. That airspeed call on final probably saved my bacon. I was in the crud and didn’t quite have the field, but with your nudging that I was a little hot, gave me time to slip the marvelous MiG airframe, scrubbing just enough speed to bring her in smoothly. She went from Peregrine Falcon to Skyhawk just in time.
If you guys really want to DM you should look into Olympus (think ArmA Zeus). I have set it up for my local server and played around a little with it. It’s really nice.
