GOTHQ Get Out The Hangar Queens AJS-37 Viggen

I have tested it and it works fine naming the ground vehicles at the FARP/roadside and being physically close to them in your Viggen a rearm page is enabled in the kneeboard.

Attached is my mission. The ground crew will burn tyres at the a=start of the landing road when your in range

I’ll upload some screens shortly…

So. I played this one slightly differently to how I normally would and went in completely blind to the cockpit. I got her started up really easily. Had to refer to @Chuck_Owl’s fantastic guide for a few bits but it’s really straightforward and I LOVE the layout of the cockpit.
I got @Franze to watch my first takeoff as he’s Viggen qualified and on my first attempt I got her into the air a bit too fast and oversped the left landing gear and it wouldn’t retract. I slowed right down and cycled the gear and got good lock indicator so I left it down and dumped ordinance (of course I was fully combat ready on a primary training flight, Al Minhad is in a warzone!) And limped back to attempt the dreaded landing. I was extremely mindful of becoming a laughing stock after all the ■■■■ taking out of @Hangar200 and kept my speed above the stall on base…
Landed a bit quick and struggled to get the nose down but WOW thrustreverse is amazing!!! I was slightly off centre but pretty pleased and it’s very docile and quite a charming aircraft!! I am really taken with it!
The burner stage lights on the dash are great as well. I really like that feature.
What a great job heatblur have done. The sounds are fantastic. Even sliding the throttle back and forth sounds meaty and heavy.

Now…for round 2 and a bit of a play with her. Great so far!

This shot is @Franze fault. he said you could reverse and tap the brakes to wheelie…i did not take this seriously enough lol
But i landed cleanly on the taxiway before this happened haha

Download a few road landing missions last night, and had some success getting down in one piece.

Also setup a RB-15F mission, to locate a suspected invasion fleet and attempt to engage the central flagship vessel (so basically playing with the targeting and approach options for the RB-15F) while in the air. Oh on a pitch black night. Missile part went swimmingly, the controlled flight into terrain on approach for landing not so much.

Finished the evening off with working on my popup attacks and CCIP laydown attacks. Feeling a bit better but still think I have room to improve. Tonight will be some Maverick practice, followed by working on my capstone practice mission (I had forgotten how convoluted mission scripting can be in DCS).

Just for posterity, repost from the screenshot thread:

No screenshots this time, but I have now worked my way through the cold start, taxi, takeoff, landing, navigation and rocket pod training missions… I also reinstalled Discord, with the idea that I might try a multi-player mission or two.

You should join us tonight on hollo pointe @PaulRix, i need to read the manual a bit today to figure the weapons systems, radar and other combat systems to actually fight with it. But it would be really cool to fly with you! I’m sure @franze, @Wes and the other HP regulars will be on. We had a blast last night watching franze decimating whole armies while I was wobbling around in the circuit compressor stalling lol

What time are you normally on. Whenever I check the mp servers they are empty HP and HPN that is

I normally arrive between 7 and 8 pm. Soon as the kids go to bed and the kettles boiled lol.

I made a coop mission with a ferry of 30 mins and a roadside rearm point. I will set up some targets or an airfield attack and see if anyone would like to try it. I added 3 harrier slots on a Tarawa if any Av8 pilots want to join for SEAD assistance

This is the wee briefing
Phase 1
Fly to the Roadside FARP at WP 2
Viggens to load up with High Drag bombs
AV8-AB to load up with SEAD and bombs
Phase 2
Viggens destroy runway at Kerman Airport
Harriers provide SEAD and destroy any parked aircraft.
Retrun to FARP on Winchester

Tune 127.500 and press the - key on your radio station selector. Contact our FARP for range and bearing information

Harriers on 243 UHF Special 3
Viggens on 305UHF Special 1
Khasab AB 250 UHF
Tarawa 128.000 VHF

If you fail to land successfully there are spare harriers and Viggens for the next phase of the mission. Its a long way to fly and crash without having to do it all again

Mission here if anyone wants it to play or tweak
Viggen roadside rearm 2.miz (18.4 KB)

And an overview of my FARP

7 playable slots 4 viggens 3 harriers if anyone fancies trying this afternoon hook me up on discord

Quick question:

I’m working on a mission where you must choose between one of two targets (i.e’ a random event will put the target at one of two points) with BK90s.

I’m thinking the best way to do this would be to start with a “dummy” attack waypoint (call it M3). Then, in the cockpit, the pilot will edit the M3 to the target choice Lat/Lon…but I assume that does not effect the wingman target WP - would still be the dummy…so maybe a single jet attack. Hmmmm…

For the AI, I’d think you’d be able to do this by assigning a task for both, then pushing the task for whichever target is active.

Yep, That seems to be the way to go. The bombs go to the Bombing Triangle so even if I successfully changed the WP, the bombing triangle would not change. Thanks!

Had another cool evening in the Viggen tonight. Started off early with some gentle basic flying. had to swap to the Hornet briefly to blow stuff up and then was fortunate to run into the awesome @PaulRix and we managed an hour or so of formation flying to waypoints and pop up bombing! Paul got a great kill with me about 100 yards behind him but my bombs didnt release…
Tried a few times and then had to start again with me in the lead. this time i got the bombs off the rack but a mile or so too late to hit anything and when i doubled back to use the gun pods as soon as i pulled the trigger DCS crashed on me for the 2nd time doing the same thing! it doenst like viggen gun or rocket pods it seems,
I think Paul had the same issue as it looked like he crashed out the game as well,
i then couldnt get back online! so i had to call it a night, but its really been a great couple of nights with the new toy.
It flies lovely, the mission parameters seem to follow victork2 brain logic and i love the layout of the cockpit and how well it all flows, the navigation system and the waypoint following are excellent.
I think my next step is to actually do the training missions and start getting involved with killing ships. i really want to kill a ship…
anyway some screenies of Paul and myself looking awesome in formation and on the way to the target area.
Thanks Paul, that was fun, we should arrange to do that again sometime soon

That was fun… and yes, I CTD’d just as you did, at bomb release. Maybe next time we can do it with voice coms. I jumped back on after the CTD and flew a bit with @Dark_Star… He was seriously mauling the Northern Outpost in his A10. I took out a tank after dropping all 16 of my bombs in one pass… then it was time to RTB and call it a day.

Great minds…its my new desktop lol

I forgot to mention that I lost a Viggen during this session. I was ham-fisting the airplane around the pattern while configured for a landing. Suddenly I found myself with a lot of sink, and no throttle response (I had the Automatic Fart Lever selected )… then I pulled the nose up a bit sharply and BANG BANG BANG (compressor stall)… so I pulled the handle and ejected. So, as I am under my chute, I watch the aircraft pancake into the scrub, but not explode… it eventually came to a stop and then, in reverse thrust, backed up and literally ran me over. LOL.

That’s awesome

The CTDs may be because the Viggen is only supposed to be loaded with a single type of A2G weapon.(AAMs don’t count) Yes, the load manager will let you load different weapons. But when you try to shoot/drop a weapon it has “issues”. I think I managed to use gun pods and rockets once. But other than that, not so much.

I’ve actually had DCS crash a bit in the last week or so. Once in ME, maybe 2 or 3 times with the Viggen (no mixed loadouts) and once it got stuck in the startup loading screen. Seems to me that the last 2 patches haven’t been 100% stable.
