After over two weeks of issues I finally gave up trying to get the Spectrum Wi-Fi router to work and bought a Netgear router yesterday. No research was done by me before I bought it I was just fed up with the Spectrum router constantly going down.

Seems I may have lucked out if the reviews at Netgear and on Amazon are any indication.

Last two weeks of pleasantries with the router from Spectrum.

Summary
  • 2-7-2022 – 10 am - Spectrum service call
    • Service tech tested all lines and then replaced the modem and unplugged Wi-Fi router to reset. This allowed the Wi-Fi signal to be found by my computers and Amazon fire stick. It could not be found by my three phones or my HP DesignJet T-120 printer. The Wi-Fi router was not replaced. Service call was deemed finished and the technician left.
  • 2-7-2022 – 2 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-7-2022 – 7:51 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-7-2022 – 9:44 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-8-2022 – 7 am - The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Wi-Fi router for 5 minutes so it would reset. The phones and the HP DesignJet T-120 printer found the Wi-Fi signal after I plugged it back in and it reset.
  • 2-8-2022 – 7:44 am – Once again the phones and the HP DesignJet T-120 printer are unable to find the Wi-Fi signal. The signal is being found by the computers and the Amazon fire stick.
  • 2-8-2022 – 1:37 pm - The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Wi-Fi router for 10 minutes so it would reset.
      • The phones and the HP DesignJet T-120 printer did not find the Wi-Fi signal after I plugged it back in and it reset.
  • 2-8-2022 – 3:26 pm - The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
  • 2-8-2022 – 3:30 pm - Called Spectrum and the spectrum service rep had me unplug the Wi-Fi router. She reset the Modem remotely and after I plugged the Wi-Fi router back in she optimized it remotely. Call ended at approximately 3:46 pm.
  • 2-8-2022 – 4:09 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically…
  • 2-8-2022 – 5:23 pm – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for 10 minutes so that they would reset.
  • 2-8-2022 – 6:30 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-8-2022 – 6:50 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-8-2022 – 7:12 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
    • Nothing is receiving the Wi-Fi signal.
  • 2-8-2022 – 8:49 pm – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for 10 minutes so that they would reset. Everything is receiving the Wi-Fi signal again.
  • 2-8-2022 – 9:34 am – Once again the phones and the HP DesignJet T-120 printer are unable to find the Wi-Fi signal. The signal is being found by the computers and the Amazon fire stick.
  • 2-8-2022 – 9:49 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-8-2022 – 10:08 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-8-2022 – 10:23 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
    • 11:53 pm - I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for the evening.
  • 2-9-2022 – 7:25 am - I plugged in the Modem and Wi-Fi Router.
    • Everything is receiving the Wi-Fi signal again.
  • 2-11-2022 – 7:21 am – Once again the phones and the HP DesignJet T-120 printer are unable to find the Wi-Fi signal. The signal is being found by the computers and the Amazon fire stick.
  • 2-12-2022 – 8:37 am – Wi-Fi router shows a solid blue light.
    • The hard wired devices are still able to connect to the internet.
    • Nothing is receiving the Wi-Fi signal.
  • 2-12-2022 – 9:09 am – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
    • Once again the phones and the HP DesignJet T-120 printer are unable to find the Wi-Fi signal. The signal is being found by the computers and the Amazon fire stick.
  • 2-12-2022 – 9:45 am – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but even though the Wi-Fi router was still showing a solid blue light several devices were not receiving the Wi-Fi router signal.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for over an hour so that they would reset.
    • 11:00 am - I plugged in the Modem and Wi-Fi Router.
      • Everything is receiving the Wi-Fi signal again.
  • 2-17-2022 – 5:42 pm – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for 30 minutes so that they would reset.
    • 6:15 pm - I plugged in the Modem and Wi-Fi Router.
      • Everything is receiving the Wi-Fi signal again.
  • 2-17-2022 – 6:54 pm – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for 5 minutes so that they would reset.
      • Everything is receiving the Wi-Fi signal again.
  • 2-17-2022 – 7:48 pm – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router for 5 minutes so that they would reset.
      • Everything is receiving the Wi-Fi signal again.
  • 2-17-2022 – 8:47 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
  • 2-17-2022 – 9:04 pm – Wi-Fi router internet signal was lost and was reset automatically.
    • The phones and my HP DesignJet T-120 printer did not find the Wi-Fi signal after I plugged it back in and the Wi-Fi router reset.
  • 2-18-2022 – 8:55 am – The modem was functioning correctly with two blue lights but the Wi-Fi router went down and was showing a solid red light.
    • I unplugged the Modem and the Wi-Fi router.
    • 1:05 pm - I plugged in the Modem and Wi-Fi Router.
      • The phones and my HP DesignJet T-120 printer did not find the Wi-Fi signal after I plugged it back in and the Wi-Fi router reset.

The service tech fixed everything when he came out on the 7th except what I suspected to be the problem from the outset. Going to be sending the Spectrum Wi-Fi router back next week and also have them remove the Wi-Fi charge from my bill. I was never happy that I was completely locked out of Spectrum’s Wi-Fi unit, save having the ability to change the password, so having full control back over the Wi-Fi router is another plus to getting rid of Spectrum’s locked piece of cr@p.

Hopefully I have the same good luck with this unit that most of the users on Amazon have experienced.
