The discerning F-14 film aficionado will recall that the first cinematic masterpiece to showcase the Tomcat was âThe Final Countdownâ (tragically ignored at the OscarsâŠcriminal in fact)
The âshowstopperâ highlight scenes are, of course, when the F-14âs engage two IJN Zeros.
Seriously, The all out top speed of the Zero aircraft was about the stall speed for the Tomcats in that configuration.
Watch the F-14 from about 4:13 to 4:20. Between those two times a Tomcat makes a hard maneuver to stay behind the descending Zero, and departs the aircraftâŠcould have been quite bad had not the pilot not had the altitude to recover. The movie people thought it looked great and kept it in. Some of my F-14 pilot friends would cringe when they saw/remembered it.

I have a nagging suspicion that there will be a lot of sad Tomcat fans on October 7.
If anyone thought that they were actually releasing it next week, they deserve nothing but A-10s
(hint: Heatblur have directly said itâs not getting released next week)

Hi all. Just joined mudspike and Iâm loving it. Keen DCS player and I cannot wait for the F 14. Any ideas as to what will be happening on the 7th? Iâm desperate for an early access release and Iâm worried about the day off I have booked at work on the 8th. Should I just go to work that day and save the day for later or is it worth the gamble to give myself maximum tomcat time should the EA release happenâŠ

Welcome! I think the best we can hope for is either a pre-sale anouncement, or the actual pre-sale going live at best. They already said it wonât be released on the 7th, so I doubt itâd be playable on the 8th, either.
When HB did a similair event for the AJS-37, the presale went live, and the module was available for play about 3 months later.
Go to work. Save it for a couple of months from now.

Excellent advice! I only have the a10c module at the moment. I keep hovering over the f18 one but Iâm really not sure I can give it my full attention with my favourite plane looming on the horizon⊠I never comment on forums but this looks like such a cool bunch of people Iâm happy to delve in and join the convo! Iâm a civvie flying instructor full time and a part time lorry driver during the winter so hopefully wonât be left behind to much when the technical stuff starts. Look forward to meeting you all thanks for the answers I think I will go to work next Monday⊠Lol

You must buy the Hornet! The cockpit is abso-incredible and the carrier ops (the taking off and landing part anyway) is sublime. Add VR to that and you are in flight sim nirvana. You could practice now for when the Tomcat comes out. One thing to keep in mind; these things are taking a long, long time. Even if they release an alpha of the Tomcat tomorrow, there is a good chance that it wonât be done for years. They are still working to finish the Viggen and that came out quite a long time ago.
The Hornet goes on sale tomorrow with a Persian Gulf and Su-33 bundle. Big savings. All excellent and worthy at full price.

Ok I didnât see that it was free for the weekend. Thatâs brilliant news. Looks like i may be awake for the next 24 hours or so⊠Thanks guys! Shots and traps here we go! I am slightly annoyed that I bought fleet defender the f14 simulation on steam so I could read the manual and play with the systems and was having great fun with it despite the resolution making my eyes bleed. I read the navops manual for the f14b in preparation for flying it on the 7th but I may have to console myself with a bug and persian gulf map in the meantimeâŠ
