James Bond “Octopussy” Bede BD5J Jet

Come see the exciting, but sad, history of the Bede BD5J jet aircraft featured in the James Bond “Octopussy” movie. If you have enough money to purchase the kit, & time & expertise to build it, you can still get yourself a modern, improved version! Hope you enjoy. Cheers.

I enjoyed that. Great to learn that improved BD5J kits are being produced and it looks stunning in unpainted aluminum. I would have liked to see more video clips from the pilot’s POV. It must be a thrilling ride.

Agree, some more cockpit shots would have been nice.

I enjoyed learning more about the jet though, I never knew there was that metal version.

I have always loved the BD-5. In the 70s I had a U line control version(model). I would love to have a real one.

Here is some nice pilot POV, but from a sort of similar Subsonex JSX2. Cheers.

Wow, I was surprised that VR was around 70 kt and he flew final at 80. I would have guessed faster.

I didn’t see the Subsonex part, but that makes sense.

This video has a lot of information on the designer and origins of the BD-5. Lots of original video. Crazy to think that they sold 5100 kits.
