It worked just as it should, and flying DCS in VR was a HELL OF A LOT smoother.
My GPU was basically not getting used in Linux because DCS in VR, for some reason, runs terrible under Linux.
I will be moving my bindings and settings over ASAP, and reformatting the big NVMe drive to NTFS.

I just tried updating DCS in Lutris for the first time in more than 6 months and had a few findings:
Edit: And now the launcher has stopped working for some arcane reason. The `–no-launcher` argument still works.
Also I tried if my TMHW and my MFG pedals get recognized in DCS and that all seems to work fine without any tinkering.
Edit: The only thing I’m still missing to get back into DCS is TrackIR, but there seems to be movement on that front.
There’s a fork of LinuxTrack that claims to support Wine, albeit only 32bit (or you need 32bit Wine installed). I’ll have to see how that does with Wine 11 since that no longer has 32bit binaries.
Apparently that repo moved off of GitHub. Good on them.

Currently sitting at home with a fractured talus head and a torn ligament, so maybe I’ll get around to finally trying it out. The even have a doc section regarding the new Wine WOW64 mode.
GitHub used to be so good before Micro$oft took over.
They have so many outages that working with GH ihas become a serious impairment to productivity. Their current uptime is way below 90%, thats clown IT level bad. Before Microslop took over, they were never close to dipping below 99.9%.
It’s become so unusable that there is now a mass exodus.
After the acquisition in 2018 it had a couple really good years. It’s only fairly recently that it’s all going to hell.
Are they just the first to experience that creating software faster does not equal operating software better?

This tells me everything I needed to know. He got shat at from the top with all the AI BS.
MS has 72 products called Copilot. Either nobody is at the steering wheel, or drugged and unconscious.
WRT uptime it’s fairly well documented that the problems started pretty soonish after the aquisition.
The thing is, apart from AI related stuff, GH features have stagnated to the point you could call everything not AI abandonware. Actions are atrocious. I’m not sure what they are doing but it’s clearly not working.

Lying about uptime is very common. Most Startups will do it after receiving the first letter asking for money back. Even if it’s just a little white lie.
But I can speak from my experience: Githubs downtimes was not having an impact like this before with developers close to me actually being blocked by it for a long time. I might be late to the bashing party, but before 2026 it was never a topic. Now they all rage. 
Edit: Yes actions seem to fail a lot. Not nice when the hotfix pipeline relies on it.
That’s veeery subjective. People have been ranting for quite some time about GH.
I had to work with it consistently for a client in 2025 and it was just as bad then as it is now. I’ve had to shift several deadlines at the last minute due to unplanned outages.
It’s not just that they fail. GH had a bug where pipelines would rarely hang indefinitely at full tilt accruing costs for the users. Have a look at this gem
They did not fix this for several years.
Migrating to Azure. They’ve communicated before that this is the reason feature development was put on hold.

And how long have they been migrating to Azure, because their velocity is still quasi zero. Taking that article you linked into account, that just looks like they got sucked into MSs nevernding vortex of burning money on this perpetual firefighting instead of deploying features that work and are useful to the customers.
So getting back a bit on topic, I tried running linuxtrackx-ir today and got it connected to my trackir 4, which was easy to set up. The bad news is that I wasn’t able to install the winebridge required for getting it to talk with DCS. The reason is that it wants to run with a 32bit wine prefix but that is no longer supported on the wine version my distro packages (>= wine 11.0).
The dev is aware of the issue, hopefully there will be a fix at one point.
Sounds similar to the few times I’ve had issues with Linux gaming: when you need an external program to communicate directly with a game.
That’s where the “it just works” abstraction of wine/proton breaks down.
Had that same thing with Elite and all the addons required to make the grind doable
This is just a big pickle we’re in right now. DCS still doesn’t run natively, so we need winebridge. Winebridge is set up for a 32bit wineprefix but that doesn’t work since wine recently did a humongous refactor to WOW64.
And this situation with companies like NaturalPoint or OptiTrack or whatever name they go by now with their closed source windows only driver ecosystems where you have to run the driver in wine is kinda ridiculous. Hell, my 64 channel 192kHz duplex audio interface can get by on class compliant mode, so should this little piece of periphery.
HOTAS, pedals, they do just work, effortlessly. But that crappy headtracker doesn’t.
There’s been a big update to linuxtrackx-ir which is supposed to support Wine WOW64. Going to try it later today.
Happy to report it works now.
There’s even an AppImage now no need to compile yourself or any such shenanigans.
