I like lists. Lists make me happy. Chronological, alphabetical, favourites, least favourites. I make lists in my head when i drive, when things are quiet.
Lists are fun.
So lets have some fun.
Make a list. No context, no explanation (unless you want to, I’m easy) it can be anything, top, bottom, best worst, anything… as long as you think it can create a discussion. I have an idea I want to try out and you good people are enough like me that we can try it properly and create discussion.
No. Rules. Just create conversation. Discourse.
I’ll start with an easy and obvious one.
1, Metal gear solid 3
2, doom
3, command and conquer
4, quake
5, metal gear solid 2
6, halo 2
7, red alert 2
8, gran turismo 2
9, realms of the haunting
10, Tes oblivion
11, carrier deck
12, forza horizon 4
13, SOMA
14, san andreas
15, terminator skynet (the sequel to future shock)
Lists can be changed. When people get together and discuss and and change their mind, its beautiful.
The first is wonderful (played it last night on pc, the master collection that i said i wouldnt buy… thats actually what gave me this idea funnily enough)
The third game, is my all time favourite piece of software Purely because, i didnt play it for so long. I thought the setting, the weapons the whole Era. Would be so different and slow compared to the other games. When i finally played it, it was so different, an almost open feeling world. With the same stories. Characters and general nuttiness that it just blew my mind. Played it in the evening and called in sick the next day. Played all the way through twice in a week and i still think about parts of that games daily.
2 is just wild. Wrapped up in a lot of personal emotions from that time, with my dad dying etc. But that tanker prologue. To the greatest bait and switch in gaming, to seeing the hero through someone else’ eyes and all the subjects it follows makes that a phenomenal achievement, but an actually “ok” game to play. In a similar way, MGS 5 is the absolute best in the series to physically “play” epic, grand awesome gameplay. But the story is the worst by far.
The first. Is strained. It hasnt aged well, but i love every second of it. But the story doesnt get going until the end and the game itself is quite basic due to its platform and its age. Great though. Wonderful even just not on a par with the sequels.
Can i point out, that my wife bought the master collection for me last night. I’ve been begging her for years to play them and she said, I’m not playing on your ps2 or 3 on the 32 inch tv in your office. Lets do it properly. I wasnt going to buy it…but she’s in now.
She lasted till the fight with ocelot before she was nodding.
