this was mentioned here on forums many times . I would not put that much stock into the profi sims . only thing we usually missing at home is the physical cockpit .
the motion of the profi sims ? it makes me usually sick . the controls forces ? far from the real thing . and so on …
flight and systems modeling ? our desktop sims can be match
question is if it is economically viable for the desktop devs .
It’s not so hard that you can’t learn it in a few hours either…
As with everything in life, you do it often enough, you will get good at it.
People can even learn to control helicopters, I’m told. Even though I find that hard to believe, personally…!
Problem with our gaming simulators is that they simply can’t convey every nuance and force that our senses are able to pick up on. This makes it unrealistically hard, in some aspects…
In my experience the only time sims get post-stall behavior right is when they script it.
The Corsair has some odd pitch characteristics in ground effect. You see it on takeoff from the boat if you clear the bow low by way of an uncommanded pitch up. You see it on takeoff from a runway when you try to stay low and accelerate by a phugoid (or maybe that’s just me). It’s oddly stable around the boat. I find that it naturally seeks 95 knots no matter what I trim for. 30”, 95 knots, idle over the fantail and snag! The easiest boat ops in the game.
I am a bit scared to be Negative Nancy- but trying back-to-back the P-47 and the F4U… I just feel like the Corsair just doesn’t feel right.
I lack the skill to express my feelings better, upsettingly, but I can’t relate to it in the same way it happens with other WWII warbirds.
Is it because it’s still unripe? Possibly, or better- hopefully.
Looking forward to the rest of the development.
That said the visual department is absolutely stunning- I set up a quick mission of just me vs 16 or so Ju-88 and the replay track was honestly remarkably movie like.
Engine sound could have a smidge of a deeper bass rumble or something.
I agree @komemiute and @Troll but not too worried. I think its faults are obvious to all. ED/Magnitude will sort it out in an update or two. I do wish it wasn’t so aged. It looks more like a 2025 poor restoration than a 1944 machine that’s seen 6 months of combat. That said, I like it.
I love it, its like a tiny, mad, sporty P-47. I love how it tends to flip on its back like a ww1 kite when you gun the engine at low speeds. I love how small it is, compared to some of the other machines.
It does feel weird and its does taxi weird and it… ITS HERE! Its early access. As much as we were expecting it to be perfect after such a long wait… It’s Very early Access.
Unlike what I previously thought, there was a Single Mission in the new WW2 Marianas Map. Rising Sun is a ground attack taking off from the boat. I changed the enemy ships to an LST and Samuel Chase instead of the Russian ships. I chaged the static aircraft skins to Japanese instead of German Fw-190s. I then set off. I will not spoil it, but it is a very exciting and short single mission. The ships put out quite a bit of flak. I was feeling quite accomplished when i parked my Corsair behind the first section that landed.
I said all that to say this… Its not perfect but it is fun. I know that it needs a lot of work… It is what it is for now…
I thought so too. It’s pretty worn.
OTOH, we’ve seen what just a cruise will do to a modern fighter. The oceans make for an inhospitable environment for aircraft and the sun is frying everything in the south pacific…
Does anybody have good pictures from the era, that show wear and tear…?
The Guam mission is pretty good. Better I think is the Normandy mission escorting A-20s. I managed to bag a 190 but crashed damaged on downwind returning to the boat. It’s fairly piggy down low. Lucky to get 260 knots. But at 18,000 and high blower, I think it trues 400+. It’s still outmatched by the Dora but easy at the AI difficulty set in the mission.
I’ve just flown it around Marianas WW2 setting up controls and learning the cockpit. Can you say, “Where’s that 6-pack when you need it?”, LOL. That panel is a mess. But the plane is beautifully made. I found a FFB preset for the AB9 on the Moza Discord and it feels much better than it did out of the box. Pitch is still a little sensitive. Can’t wait to see what Reflected has in store for this plane and map.
