Thanks for mentioning that! First thing I looked for as well. Kurt Vonnegut mentioned this in his preface to Slaughterhouse 5. He was in his war-buddy’s kitchen the day before they were to depart for a peacetime return to Germany as well as to research the book. The buddy left the kitchen for a pee-break. His wife suddenly laid into Kurt with something to the effect, “You are going to glamorize war by portraying soldiers as adult John Waynes. You two were just CHILDREN playing soldiers!” (Vonnegut was 18 when he was captured.)
The book opens with three American soldiers lost from their unit walking in the snow and acting like total children in uniform, which is how it probably really was.
Watched Ep. 2 just now. Gets even better!
I wish the episodes were a bit longer. The action feel a bit condensed, as if they are compressing it to fit an hour.
I feel this is something all movies are doing now. Thats why im not much into super here movies. It all feels a bit like Tom & Jerry.
I liked the first 2 episodes… cant wait.
I just watched the first two episodes last night. Absolutely loving this show. Action packed, got the big beautiful bombers, and the right amount of gore. I’m hoping they do a little more character development. Seems to only be a few of them they’re building on. Very encouraged though.
The M3 wasn’t standardized until April of 1945. To the best of my knowledge the B-17 only carried the M2 during WW2, which has the much lower fire rate.
Yeah I thought they were M3s but apparently not. Still, 850 of the AN/M2 is a lot faster than what they’re depicting in the show–which feels like it’s 650 (that Hollywood machine gun sound that Mover is always making fun of). I recall the old documentaries I used to watch as a kid showing quite a high right of fire.
I haven’t given it any thought, but maybe they use M3 props in the series?
I normally bury my face in a pillow when the shootin’ starts!
It’s gutwrenching just to watch…
I get what @Clutch means. Them Hollywood guns firing like CRAM when in fact the M2 was slow firing gun. I think it was about 600rpm. The show is a little too Hollywood in my opinion. The main character always looks like he just came from the Salon where he got his Elvis haircut. Then there are the over the top attacks. Its a bit much. The battle damage when they land is overdramatic. Its no “Band of Brothers” or “The Pacific” thats for sure. Still ill watch it. Then spend the night flying 190s or Mustangs… Not a bad show but it could be better imo.
I have only ever fired a M2 HB, but iirc the ROF was only about 500-550? So actually slower than a 60. I know the barrel recoils to unlock the bolt, but surely the heavy barrel wouldn’t slow them down that much?
