I live by the Cape, the little bump just to the right of the H circle in the middle of the peninsula.
It’s got winds at 170mph right now. Fingers crossed it loses some of that steam by Wednesday afternoon before it comes ashore like 100 miles south of where Helene just did.
Stay safe. I hope everyone in the path gets through this OK.
You folk must be over this by now?
Stay safe!
Glad this one isn’t on the helene path. Not sure we could take that hit again so soon.
I believe this one is forecasted to lose some steam and hit as a cat 3. Still bad but not nearly as bad as a cat 5.
I will say this though, i dont want to be on the right side of one of these again.
The 2004/2005 years were the worst. I forget just how many came ashore in that like 16 month period or so.
Good luck and stay safe
I hope you are all ok
Hope everyone stays safe
Have family down there on the west coast, and they do seem to be taking this one coming with not quite the same sang froid as in the past - they are over it, to put it mildly.
Can’t blame them really, I’m sure it takes a toll. Particularly after Ian where most of the surrounding area where they live got flattened. Hopefully for everyone it dies down a bit before hitting land.
Ya, I’m right at the bottom of that cone as soon as it hits land, 8 miles in.
Born and raised in Florida, probably been through more than 50 hurricanes, never been really worried about them before, but this one has me thinking.
But I’m kinda of a minor prepper, so got tons of water, food, including a years’ worth of survival food, more then 50 guns and 50k rounds of ammo… and a tent if my house crumbles and I have to camp out in the yard… so I’m good, and never leaving my fortress. lol
Best of luck to all the others in the path.
Stay safe all.
To those above: I’m in the panhandle (“old Florida”) and if you need a place to evacuate to PM me. got three spare beds (counting a bunk bed, you can flip for the top bunk ), and with cots [have to bring those] room for a couple more in the “bonus” room
PS: I will be flying back in the AM but will be home ~3PM EST
PSS: a good site/app for tracking without all the noise is zoomearth.
Someone put salt on his margarita.
Man, Florida, my heart goes out to you. I’ve had back to back typhoons on Guam and it sucked. But in my case the storms were separated by a couple of months, not weeks. And let me add my appreciation for concrete and rebar construction and my utter befuddlement why wood is ever used in a tropical storm zone. That comment seems misplaced but I think it every time there is a hurricane in the continental US.
I read an absolutely frightening description of the storm by a meteorologist:
“This hurricane is nearing the mathematical limit of what Earth’s atmosphere over this ocean water can produce.”
I just read that it seems to slow down, but even slowed down that’s still a Hurricane.
Stay safe over there, guys!
“…appreciation for concrete and rebar construction…”
Agreed.
Many who live in FL claim to be “over it” when it comes to hurricanes but the State now has a population nearing 23 million and counting…
NJ is the fastest depopulating state in the US. I love it! Go south. I’ll stay here with four mild seasons, great airport diners, perhaps the greatest soaring ridge on earth and a 30 minute bike ride across the Hudson to NYC. Taxes? I’ll compare mine to yours. Yes, even you FL. And given the amount of Federal funds you take in, you’re welcome!
Remind me to give you my full thesis about this later.
I know the fastest depopulating State used to be Michigan a couple years ago. It’s interesting to see that it’s NJ now.
Well personally… Freedom Florida is FULL, I’m actually hoping many newcomers decide to head back. Usually after people spend a summer here, July through October, it’s so damn hot and the Hurricanes they tend to leave. lol
