See that’s not what I want. The most memorable moment I’ve ever had in the theatre is during the opening screening of Independence Day (yeah. Giving away my age here!) where the alien ship blows up the Sydney Opera house and everyone in the theatre started cheering
This. So much this. I don’t understand a word of what Bane says…
The volume. I’ve complained it a few times, but I get the same “I’ll see what we can do.” Every time it happens, I feel dumb that I’m here again, like returning to the same restaurant that always so cold that it’s as if they are hanging meat in the dining area.
It’s sometimes excruciating loud. Glad to learn that others feel the same. It’s like they think that you’ll pay attention to ads more. Glorified sheep herding. Maybe a class action lawsuit is in order, but it probably makes more sense to avoid the cinema in order to save a few bucks for a bigger TV.
Exactly this.

My eardrums still have PTSD from the sound bombs in Star Wars…episode 2 I think?
I try to go whenever there’s something I want to see, like Topgun Maverick or the Dunes. Those were incredible in theatres. Especially since I got the theatre all to myself for the Dune films since people out in the boonies have horrid taste.
3 or 4 hour round trip? You live somewhere in the middle of Alaska or something?
Even more isolated… Australia
I’m taking my boys to see Flight Risk tonight…simply because I know how awful it will be…
At least it stars that attractive girl from Downton Abbey!
Were there any?
It was so bad it was good.
I knew within two minutes of the start of the movie how awfully great it was going to be when they used a piston engine sound for the starting of the Caravan.
We watched “surviving black hawk down” on netflix this week and my wife insisted i stopped talking about humvee mistakes about 2 episodes in because i was getting on her nerves…
Maggie Smith was awesome in Downton!
But she passed away last fall, and Flight Risk was probably shot last week, so she can’t be in it…
Seriously though, Michelle Dockery totally had my attention as the upper class babe in Downton!
Duh!
It’s got a propeller so it must be WWII vintage!
Is this payback for every, single helicopter ever in cinema featuring the sound of a Huey’s blades?
Did you know the MGM Lions roar is actually a Tiger?
It‘s usually not an accident when the „wrong“ sound is used. It‘s to trigger emotions.
I had heard that. Also, it used to be the sound that dolphins made in movies was actually a kookaburra.
Oh boy do I have news about the sound of horses hooves…
To me movie theaters vs. watching at home is like reading an article on my phone vs reading a newspaper in print. I find the experience much more focused than watching a movie at home, where I might drift off into doing something else regularly.
It’s not that you can usually expect Austrians to be particularly well behaved, but the crowd our local english cinema draws seems to stand out in that regard. Plus, they make really good popcorn.
