they are also working on a new ffb base , the smaller AB6 , no release date yet
I really like my AB9. Just be aware itās bulky and you will need a mounting solution. I used it as an excuse to get a simpit (SimFab DCS edition). There are desk clamps for it too, but you will need a beefy desk for that to be a good option. The AB6 is probably designed with that in mind (and it still isnāt a small base).
Cheers, good to know! It looks huge yeah! Troll mentioned Winwing and Virpil working on a FFB base so it might be worth keeping that in mind I suppose.
I like mine and its been really good. I cant go back. But as mentioned⦠Its HUGE.
FYI, if you fly the Tobsen/EightBall AH-6J MH-6J with an AB9, you need to drop 3 x files in your \Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\Moza\ folder to get FFB. Download them on their Discord channel.
No idea where to find that profileā¦
Itās not a profile, but 3 files that you need to download.
If you go to Tobsen and EightBallās Discord server DCS: OH-6 and go to the # ah-6j-ffb section, at the very top, there is a post by slightlystewpid with 3 files attached, Gear.lua, MainRotorRPM.lua, and Moza.lua. Download those and drop them into your \Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\MOZA\ folder. Backup any that will be overwritten first or use a mod installer, like OvGME. You are good to go.
Without those, you wonāt have FFB in the AH-6J even if you had it in the OH-6A.
Here is my Moza AB9 preset if you want to try it.
Can jump on Discord if you need help.
Awesome. I will need these for when my AB6 arrives ![]()
Hi Dan,
Thank you for all this information. I am really excited and cant wait to get home and try this today.
BIG THANKS
I had me one of them nights last night. I got the software to make the AH-6J dance but then my headset wanted an update⦠just about to fly⦠Now the AB-9 wants an update⦠FINE!!! So i finally get to the start screen and my joystick (Mongoose from Virpil) starts feaking out. On the controls screen, its pressing buttons by itself and going nuts⦠I was like what? So, I am thinking the Firmware upgrade messed something up⦠Then my sound would not work⦠Fixed it and now I have been at my desk for two hours.
I tried a different profile for the Joystick call V 50-2 instead of the MH-16⦠Well guess what? Not only did it stop all the blinkidy blink, but the RZ axis works for the brake axis on the stick. Whoo Hoo! I have been trying for months to get this to work. So, I took some time to taxi the MiG-21 around and had such a good time that I tried the Spitty. Both were a lot easier to taxi.
Back to the AH-6J and I could not get the profile to show anywhere. The OH-6 profile is there⦠So, I picked no profile and the FFB kicked in really (too) good. Today, testing will resume.
For the moza ab-9 in dcs, donāt chase profiles first; chase the scripts instead.
If ffb ākicks in too goodā when no profile is selected, it usually means that the lua side is working but the tuning isnāt right for the module. If those three files arenāt being overwritten by anything else and are sitting cleanly in saved games\dcs\scripts\moza\, the ah-6j wonāt act like the oh-6a.
A few things Iāve seen that can make the strange behavior you described happen are:
The firmware update resets the center spring and damping in the pit house.
Reorder windows game controllers after an update
Virpil and AB-9 are fighting over FFB focus.
moza.lua from an older build that is still around
for the ab-9, start with something easy:
turn off all the springs and dampers in the pit house
confirm that ffb is only active through dcs export
Load into the AH-6J without a preset and only test the hover trim.
Then make the preset based on how the rotor feels in real life.
If FFB starts up hard on mission start, your mainrotorrpm.lua is probably getting too big.
The moza ab-9 in helicopters is a whole other world once itās right. You wonāt go back to not having ffb.
Keep testing; youāre almost there.
Thank You @michell25 and welcome to Mudspike. Looks like you have some experience with ffb. I must test again.
I donāt fly helicopters IRL, but IMHO, the default Moza DCS helicopter presets have way too much blade slap. If itās set on 100%, I usually lower it to 25%, then tune so that itās noticeable, but not about to shake the stick out of its mount. Looking at you, Chinook. And my wife will keep sleeping.
As far as the 3 files that I linked above, I had no FFB in the AH-6J until I dropped those in, as most users have reported. Then I took the OH-6A preset that Iāve been using and tuned it a little to better suit the AH-6, which wasnāt much. But thatās subjective of course. With a 100mm extension, I am leaving all of my curves flat. She is flying sweet now, especially after the 1.1 update.
Now here is some information I can use. Thanks!!!
I am too frustrated with this. I reinstalled OH-6 No FFB. Then realized non of my choppers have FFB. I deleted both mods for now.
That is weird?
After just finishing a session with the MH-6 (AB-6) I am finally making progress with FFB settings.
Iām still figuring out what does what with the cockpit software, but FFB seems to be working fine?
