Priced at 450€ for the whole bundle (stick, base, desk mount) makes it a very interesting option. I will probably wait it to be available on local retailer and then pull the trigger.
Affordable ftw, but I want stronger motors, not weaker!
I am waiting with bated breath (and saved up cash) to see what Virpil are cooking. I fthey take too long and the winwing offering turns out any good, I might even go for that.
I have not had the pleasure of experiencing force feedback joystick, so I have to rely on the numbers.
The spec promises sustained roll torque of about 4 Nm, which would equate 1 kg gravitational force at the distance of 25 cm (my estimate on the stick length where the hand is positioned).
So, it means I will easily win the arm wrestling with it, but do I even want to wrestle it? My main concern is that it should be able to sustain the stick weight in every position (heli trim), which it should easily manage by my calculations.
It would be nice to hear comments from the people with Moza AB9. Does it feel powerful enough? Do you use it at full power?
To be honest, you don’t need the effects to be high torque. They need to be enough to tell you what the airplane is doing, a stiffening of the controls as speed increases, buffet and flutter etc etc, but if the effects are too overwhelming, then you lose fine control.
Force trim on helicopters is excellent (with the caveat being that I have never flown a helicopter). I have two buttons on the stick mapped for force trim and reset trim. Put the stick where you want it and press the force trim button, and the forces neutralize at that position. The precision the stick gives is at a whole different level when it comes to helicopters.
I’m hip. My butt-thumper haptic thingy [BTHT (C)] does this. Of course it’s artificial but my backside has adjusted; the higher the rate the ‘thumping’ is (through the seat) the closer I am to departing for instance.
These two together…whew…can’t wait to find out.
All on top of being able to fly a chopper more easily (for me).
Still early days, and the only place I could ‘buy it now’ is direct from Moza (AUD699.00, + P&H, + Import Duties) so I will at least will wait until I can get it ‘locally’.
That said, it is currently the front runner as a replacement for the Warthog stick I bought over 15 years ago.
I’ve got a RhinoFFB and love it. It looks like the AB9 has even stronger motors? I think the stronger the better because you can always dial them back in the software, and the stronger motors are better able to hold up the weight of the grip, especially if you use an extension, especially when you have it trimmed away from center.
but I guess I will miss this first round of early adopters . my bank account is under constant stress these days , and my priorities list is still too long .
Sometimes it is easy to get carried away and forget that this is just a hobby and not worth breaking the bank over. The good thing is that FFB seems to be gaining traction and it will only get better and more affordable as time goes by.
thats the only thing that makes me feel not in hurry for now . because its surly hobby but it many times served me very well as a home training device ( already preparing arguments for the purchase ) .
