Interesting, I am curious what the 3rd party devs will do. Wholesale migration to FS24?
I have questionsâŠ
They will continue the MSFS Roadmap and support past the release of MSFS2024.
I guess that 2020 will fade out and 2024 is the new product we will need if we want development and support past what has been announced for 2020? Theyâre not going to co-exist as separate products, are they?
Iâm dreaming of the old SAR series, but with MSFS graphicsâŠ!
I understood they were.
I can see the two having the same core with the same updates etc. The difference might be that the 2024 iterarion will include missions / career overlay while the 2020 will remain a sandbox.
A bit confusing? Yes. For the time being.
Yeah, âseparateâ is probably the wrong word.
I am almost sure that the terrain stuff will be the same. I cannot imagine them doubling all that server infrastructure. It is cheaper to just continue developing it, so both sims will receive the benefits.
So you will have two clients with different features, and most likely additional/different server content for them in some regards (missions).
Side note: I seriously hope that they donât double everything on the client PC if you have both installed, and can just share assets like planes or the installed parts of the scenery at least.
But what I am expecting is basically that at least the first versions of 2024 will be 2020 with some stuff (missions) bolted on. Similar to a few of the early sim updates that broke some stuff but were still largely the same. Only that you donât have to switch or not, you get to have both of you want to.
So there will surely be some hiccups and incompatibilities, but so far Asobo has handled this quite well, so if initial reviews of people who got into beta access are good I will probably switch as quickly to 2024 as I switched from XP10 to XP11.
I donât intend having both installed so if 2024 doesnât work with at least most of my stuff I probably wonât buy it until it does. Especially if it is another humongous install on my SSD.
I agree. Weâll know more soon.
Good point. I canât eitherâŠ
Good points @Aginor indeed.
I am still not sure that âswitchingâ from one to another will be required. I can imagine that the MSFS 2024 will be âmissions onlyâ and will not have this sandbox dimension.
Because if not, why a stand-alone MSFS 2024 at all? I mean, why not to make it as a DLC to the MSFS 2020?
This. So for now I stop speculating I am curious.
Probably because they will ask for full price AAA game money.
Thatâs what was worrying me straight away - large part of ÂŁ100 for FS2020 and now this will no doubt be at least as much.
edit: who knows - perhaps each mission type will be DLC as well - have to wait and see, but it really wouldnât surprise me as many big name devs seem to do that kind of thing.
I expect 70âŹ, but if all the addons (planes, scenery) are compatible I am actually fine with that.
I dont know. I am not that sure that customers wants or needs (âneedâ in regards to dev costs which have to be covered by customers in the end) ultimate toys like BMS.
customers are quite happy with the simple toys which are sandoxes which offer constant stream of new modules, maps, etc. all wrapped in eyecandy.
I can be wrong, but I guess there is bigger bunch of players who are involved in modern sandboxes (MSFS, XP, DCS, IL2, âŠ) than players who are still playing with older ultimate toys (BMS, TAW, EECH, LONGBOW2, WOFF, WOTR âŠ).
those that are really in need of some better playing value out of the sandboxes can always grab some module which can expand the core experience. like for MSFS the already mentioned NeoFly and the like.
many times the toys we have at hand are almost perfect. its our thirst for new toys which prevent our full enjoyment of the present experience.
While I like NeoFly, it is still a lot of âplaying pretendâ.
I think that a more integrated experience (like for example trucks/cars waiting for you at the gate or passengers actually sitting in your plane) would do the sim a lot of good. And it is still an external program to handle which doesnât work with the general audience very well, and even worse on consoles.
I think that a proper mission system is a good addition for most people who arenât hardcore simmers that are used to it.
surely that applies to NeoFly, but in general, isnt there constant stream of payed missions poping up on Marketplace for both PC and XB ?
@NEVO. I get both approaches. Sandboxing allows me to learn more about the sim and the machine being simulated. And Iâve enjoyed experiencing sims this way for 25 years. Where pre-made missions shine, at least those made my professionals and beta-tested by near-professionals, is in how they can highlight the sim and the module in ways that only the deep knowledge of the creator can properly flush out to it fullest. I wear multiple hats. One gets a kick out of mission creation and deep module study. The other wants to be a console monkey and have the experience spoon fed to me. OK, that last one is unfair to console monkeyâs but we all know that the perception is out there. Good or bad, that is now my happy place.
Yes, but those are more⊠scripted experiences.
I might be wrong but the way I interpret the announcement video it seems to suggest that there will be a form of built in mission generator, hence the comparison to NeoFly which does that pretty well for an external tool.
May have to kooking into neofly. First time i have heard about it.
But to be fair. I have been in the xp world for a while.
I held off on 2020 because, reflecting on the MSFS track record, I was expecting a 2021 or 2022. Honestly, didnât see this one coming. So I might hold off. It looks hella sweet tho.
I see, I have it usually the same.
sometimes I marvel about the mods and sometimes I just want to screw all the mods and want the base game to provide all the satisfaction.
that would be interesting, especially the depth of it they might or might not provide by default
really? imo its the best free career/va mod out there.
but I am similarly stuck in xp world
Yep, I am really curious what they will come up with.
I have a good opinion of Asobo though, so far. If MS provides them with the money they can build great stuff, I think.
Anyone noticed such deails as new way of rendering trees, or all four seasons?
