Hey, that’s a thing! Or is it? My memory’s not so good anymore….
I’m on that like a Possum on a sweet
potato. DLing now.
Ditto. Many great memories of riding in Twin Otter jump ships. A good friend also flew them in the Virgin Islands. Just Flight doesn’t disappoint.
Ever since I’ve entered the community, I’ve always heard people exclaiming over this plane in the various sims…
I don’t see the particular attraction, but I’m glad that others are getting a treat.
OMFG!!! THIS IS THE BEST PLANE EVER!!!
Sorry…couldn’t resist.
Actually, oddly enough, I loved this plane in FSX and I can see this being a favorite in MSFS as well.
I’ve only flown it for a short hop thus far but she flies very well, if only because you can trim the damn thing which can’t be said of every MSFS release.
Textures look good and the cockpit is very nicely done, IMO. The release comes with at least two variants, the -100 and -300, and multiple versions of both, pax and cargo, skis, floats, and tundra. I didn’t count them, but I’d guess maybe 8-9?
As for the plane, I can speak only for myself. The Otter, just has that workhorse feel to it. Sitting in the cockpit, it feels utilitarian. It also seems to cruise nicely along as well.
For me, there’s just something sexy ugly about it. And I love me some sexy ugly.
My brief hop from Key West to the Dry Tortugas.
Oh God…steam gauges, uhuhuhuhuh…
Yep, that looks delicious @Deacon211. I’ve commuted on these things a fair bit, sometimes sitting in the front (‘Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?’ etc) so it just can’t be resisted.
Eventually we’ll going to have the Majestic Q400, iniBuild’s A330 and the PMDG 737-800 on MSFS and then I can just never stand up ever again. Cool.
WOW THE TWOTTER IS REALLY LOUD INSIDE I CAN’T HEAR A THING ANYMORE.
Also, going to try this thing, as it looks like GN530 is the most it does. I guess if you can see a bush then you’re fine.
The Twin Otter might be what it takes to get me to open an Air Hauler company under MSFS…
Because you can fly them with bare feet.
Because they can land anywhere…
…and always make the first turnoff.
Because cold places and high altitudes are their playground.
But mostly because they can be ridden hard all day long and put away wet.
I’m…
Gonna just leave that there…
So much room for activities…
Just waiting for my Harbour Air Seaplanes livery to turn up here - https://flightsim.to/discover/twin%20otter
I guess I will be adding another airplane to my MSFS hangar when I get home off this trip… of course, that was pretty much a foregone conclusion. The Twotter looks stunning. How are the sounds? I have read a few complaints about the sound set over on the MSFS forum.
I know many MSFS engines sound weak, but I didn’t really notice it.
It seemed to capture that “turboprop whine” at least enough to take me back to the Kingair.
I guess it could be throatier, but better than the F3F I’d say.
That doesn’t sound too bad then…
I know what I’ll be flying this weekend (along with the P51 of course).
It’s a bit odd in the way it goes from the feather → beta → whirrr noise. The individual stages sound good, it’s more how they transition. It very much sounds like an twotter, so I’m happy. They have a patch planned already for things that people pointed out.
@chipwich - that Saba (TNCS) video reminded me, that’s going to be a great place for some initial touch and goes. Was looking for somewhere sunny rather than the cold and rain in the PNW right now…
Yes it does, especially at full power. That sound is fairly distinctive and comforting.
Agree with this too. The sound seems confused at times, but it does go into beta.
I got my jump “wings” at Perris Valley, CA, east of LA back in the early 90s. Right after the movie Point Break came out. Not a coincidence. But that’s a rabbit hole to go down another day. I was thrilled to see that the jump ship AeroSoft modeled was one of the Sharks from Skydive Perris.
Not many of the buildings (pool, bar, school, store) are in place at the virtual airport, but the drop zone is unmistakable.
When I was living in Atlanta, had bought my first VR headset, an Oculus Rift, I called my long time friend who had flown Eastern Metro Express Twotters out of St. Croix in the late 80s. I had gotten X-Plane working in VR and wanted him to come over and try the Twin Otter. When I was setting up the flight, I thought for sure that he would want to fly out of St. Croix or San Juan. But no, he wanted Saba. He had a great time recreating some of his trips there. His only criticizm was that the Garretts either spoiled too quickly or too slowly. Otherwise it was a great simulation.

Following up on my Twin Otter post above, upon further testing the sounds are very much a mixed bag. While the cruise sound is typical in the cabin Twotter, the transitions through RPM ranges are pretty bad, and there are some random other sounds that detract from the experience. Until AeroSoft fixes, this poster shows how to swap in the default King Air sounds. Apparently, there is a mod for this at flightsim.to too. Edit: See below.
This mod aliases the sound to the default KA350, gets rid of the “bank angle” and “don’t sink” calls, and changes the flight model. IMHO, it raises the stall speed too high. Published is 65 kts clean, so I did not use the FM part of the mod…
