We are looking for testers of the Xbox version of the Dash 7.
If, in addition to the PC version, you also run the Xbox version of MSFS and want to be part of the testing team, please send us a note with information about which Xbox exactly you are running MSFS on and about the time you would be willing to invest in this venture.
We will require you to run both the Xbox and the PC versions of the Dash 7 and specifically report on issues that work on the PC version but do not work on the Xbox version.
The F-111 is now available at the marketplace… $39.99. Not cheap, but I have not flown a F-111 since Birds of Prey, which was (ahem)…quite some time ago.
I pulled the trigger on the Tomcat from Heatblur / IFE (with the 10$ discount for DCS Tomcat owners). It’s pretty good, and for MSFS standards really good. Most systems are operational (besides weapons / RWR / CMS / TCS), radar sort of works, Jester is eager to eject as always (you can disable this feature if you wish from “Jester wheel”). The one drawback is that the documentation is a bit lacking. There is no detailed start up procedure, you can always use the docs from DCS though . I initially had some issues with cold start, but finally got it to work - I recorded a vid for future reference (I often use my own vids to remind myself how to do things when returning to modules after long breaks in DCS or BMS).
Sorry for video stuttering in few places, game ran smooth, seems like Shadowplay is acting up.
Honestly, while I’m sure some perfectionists will sing huzzahs, I never really had a problem with the FBW A320 cockpit, so to me this is kind of a nothing-burger.
Inibuilds to release A300 December 26th, next aircraft revealed as the A350 (-900/-1000).
I was honestly expecting the A380, the 350 is a bit of a surprise to me. It does seem like they’re very early in the development process, I personally wouldn’t expect anything until this time next year.
Edit: After re-visiting their announcement page, I realized I misread the tidbit about December 26th. The 26th is the day that streamers and the like have their NDAs lifted and can showcase the aircraft, along with the announcement of the release date, pricing, etc.
As far as I know, they are still targeting a 2023 release but they have not announced the date yet.
Annnnnd it’s out! I’m away for another week but this will be a quick purchase once I’m back. There’s plenty of streams going around to decide if it floats your boat but it should be a great option for cargo or passenger wide-body flying.
Hey fellas,
I flew the Milviz Corsair and the Flying Iron Hellcat last night back to back. I was asked what i thoght in Hardware section. But before i give you my thoghts… Why is my MSFS flight model so “On Rails”, so easy? I am using the new flight model. Am i missing something? DCS seems 20 years ahed on flight modeling.
Here is my comparison:
Just the fact that you can fly these two birds in VR is amazing. The pits are both works of art. The Corsair is more “busy” and worn looking. The HellCat is also worn but the aircraft is a bit simpler (irl) than the F4U. Its really hard to say one is better than the other. The art is just amazing. The external is amazing too on both.
If i had to pick just one, the Hellcat is easier to fly. I think they both sound great but the Hellcat once again narrowly wins for me. The Corsair is a bucking bronco with attitude. The Hellcat is no sloutch. Its fast and agile but more stable.
Dont get one thinking it will cure the itch for the other. That simply will not work. Get both or wait till ED puts the DCS Versions in our mittens.
A flight model has only been as good as the time and resource spent on it. 16 years later you will still be changing a Flight model. High fidelity ones in DCS despite being high effort are still simplistic in areas when you start digging into it.
To do MSFS planes at volume means they will be simplified (good enough) - that is what I would expect - it has never been considered HF in terms of flight modelling though has it (?). (There may be a few exceptions from 3rd parties).
Also some devs do change things like the flight model over time with updates.
I love the aircraft interaction model with the environment in MSFS - although it probably needs individual devs to take advantage of that as well.
I think the other issue is that MSFS has always been kind of a “heart of the envelope” sim. No version has really been great at simulating the edges. And considering that really any maneuvering involves operations either near the edge of stall or the G limit, and you get kind of “meh” performance in those regimes.
I understand that 2024 is going to replace the (basically modified FSX) FM that 2020 used. But I still think we are going to be limited by the fact that the audience for MSFS has always been more non-tactical/non-aerobatic.
So, I think you have to ask how invested Asobo are going to be in spending the time with advanced boundary layer separation and deep stall behaviors compared to, say, DCS (which is not utterly realistic either IMHO, but far better).
On a completely different note, you should try the F4F-4 Wildcat from GotFriends.
MiGbuster is back! Thank you for your input. So i see now its not jus my imagination. I guess the only time i feel MSFS pushing is when im landing the Corsair on a carrier.
I bought the Got Friends Wildcat. I absolutely love it.
Tonight im going to live out my dream. I just bought the Flying Iron Lightining. Cant wait to see it and try it in full fidelity.
Well said @Deacon211 ! I LOVE MSFS for the look. The helicopters fly something like helicopters. But the planes that are supposed to be a facsimile of the planes I know: the Pitts family especially, are so far off that we might as well call the sim MarioPlanes. But I still enjoy even the little Pitts’s because the environment is so lovely. I can only fly my Pitts inverted down Broadway once. In MSFS I can do it as much as I please. Anyway, DCS is so much better that it seems a bit silly to even compare the two.
My sentiments exactly. Thank you. But as you said, its the environment… and the variety of aircraft.
Had some time w the Lightning last niggt. Its another gorgeous effort from Flying Iron. One can only dream of a P-38 in DCS. It feels like a very manly piece of kit.
yep, thats great argument. and despite DCS being the king in FM and DM modeling MSFS is still very very good.
had some fun yesterday with friends flying some light weight planes in MSFS under some bridges in strong wind. even the downwind takeoffs were great challenge.
the main reason I would choose DCS over MSFS is the performance. I have twice the FPS in DCS.
So, i ran into a problem. Perhaps someone can help me or acknowledge this is happening to them
The Skunkworks F-104 is now playing in Single digits in VR. Its unplayable. All others are fine but the Starfighter is denying me a ride.
Im flying w Crystal and my other aircraft get 40 to 80 frames.
Anyone have this bird and VR?
