MSFS News

Interesting news coming out of the dev live stream today. SU13 pushing tomorrow with some nice fixes.

This one… I don’t understand. It seems like an odd choice to develop an A320 for a market which already has multiple paid and free versions, with varying features and depth. The only thing I could think of would be for the Xbox market but there’s several other aircraft I would’ve guessed they’d be working on instead.

Yeah, I think you are right, it’s an xbox compatibility thing. Inibuilds use the WASM javascript way of building aircraft that means it works on both platforms. It’s why they don’t really perform as well as other 3rd party stuff. Fenix can’t work on Xbox as it uses an external licensed exe, the FBW team have said a few times they are not interested in going through approval for Xbox, so that basically just leaves a gap for something more complex than the stock one, plus they have the license already from Airbus.

The MU-2 is interesting in that it’s ready to go but they haven’t got the license go ahead from Mitsubishi still - which sort of explains why they got touchy about trying to nuke all mention of the marketplace leak, as another company is involved and might even still be negotiating something.

I’m not sure if @Troll flies without weapons, but that Nordic update looks pretty cool, as does the Saab B-17.

Mostly at work… But he has been known to in sims as well.

Wait…WHAT?!? They’re making a B 17!!!

My RC B 17 made the cover photo of the modelling (not the beauty kind) magazine article that launched me into my 15 min of nerd fame, back in 2013…

Just realized that was a decade ago…

Jeez, Asobo… Are you trying to start a war…?

Another war? Although I got the flag reference you had me looking up: Dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden so thank you for that

Also, as a Kiwi by birth I am very used to Australian’s appropriating most things good about NZ and calling it their own… Phar Lap, Split Enz, Rebecca Gibney, Russell Crowe (well maybe we will give them Rusty?), etc.

So. I get the sentiment

Yeah, Carlsten Fortress is a sore point since Sweden had to negotiate it back from the Norwegians (Technically Danish-Norwegians)…

It’s a beautiful fortress though! On Marstrand island on the Swedish west coast. I have been there several times.

I knew the ‘grudge’ went back centuries but I didn’t know that the formal dissolution was so recent. Once again, thank you for helping me learn something new today

Always a pleasure!
And I learned that Crowe is a Kiwi…!

SU13 has been released, if you can get it to download.

Lots of folks, including myself, are having issues during the update process. Specifically, it’s hanging up on decompressing files or downloads failing all together.

Microsoft is “monitoring” but recommend steering clear until they resolve the issue.

Considering this is the 13th update it’s amazing they still can’t figure out how to make an installer that works. It’s not like they don’t know what the demand is either; they’ve been boasting about the active user numbers to anyone with a pulse. Pretty poor stuff.

Agreed. Especially considering there’s no opting out of the update.

Some of the comments on the MS forum are a bit comical, proclaiming they’re “DONE WITH THIS GARBAGE”.

They’ll be back.

But yeah, definitely a really poorly executed update from a company that should have figured this out by now.

I never had an issue with any of the updates. they used to take a long time but these days they are going PDQ.
I had one day before yesterday - I’m guessing this is a new one, so I’ll give it a go and see.

From their forum:>

UPDATE (2023-09-29 @ 0430 UTC)

Our support team is making progress with this issue. While it is not fully resolved yet, we are starting to see improvements on our end. We are still working to restore normal service, but players may notice that Sim Update 13 installs successfully now, although possibly at slower download speeds than you may be used to. We thank you for your continued patience as we work to get this fully resolved.

///////

We are seeing reports from players mentioning slow download speeds when installing Sim Update 13. We are monitoring this situation closely and currently investigating. We will provide an update when we have more information to share. Thank you for your patience. Discussion Topic: [Polls] Sim Update 13 (1.34.16.0) Discussion

Same here.

The only problem I ever had was when I was dumb and used the Steam repair function which deleted everything.

Updates always ran smoothly for me.

I also keep in mind that they have to work through the Microsoft Azure servers and don’t necessarily have total control over download speed, etc.

Which is to say, they will probably feel constrained to gracefully take the fall rather than pointing to their bosses…

This appears to have fixed the issue with the update.

Of note, I did not complete steps 4 or 5 because that would’ve taken a while to complete based on the number of files in that folder.
