Some pictures from today’s soaring test.
We are getting there!
The area I flew in is near Bensheim, Germany. The mountain range is called the “Odenwald”, with elevations between 300ft and 2000ft MSL.

Was there a Starbucks up there?
Ever seen the videos of that conspiracy theorist who thinks the Devil’s Tower is actually a tree stump (“rocks never look like that”) and proof that giants (who cut it down) roamed the Earth a few thousand years back? (the government is withholding the truth about that for… uhm… some reason).
I was really hoping the F15 would be released today. It’s coming tomorrow, but I had a hankering for something fast today. So:
It’s fun enough to fly around. Handles like an ocean liner if you get below 200 knots though. I’m pretty sure a clean, light Typhoon would handle differently. It looks pretty good, and it is fun enough to fly, so no buyer’s remorse as I pretty much knew what I was buying. I strongly suspect I’ll be posting some F15 shots tomorrow though…
The Bernie meme is everywhere!
Like him or not, the memes are hilarious.
Perfection!
And here comes an old approach in an old plane in a new sim (LESO, TB21, MSFS)
Bill created another masterpiece.
The aircraft is quite heavy on FPS (Bill says that in the module description on simmarket) which went down from some 55 (for default C172s) to 40ish. I thought it would be a big issue when in VR but not so much actually. I am pretty happy
My assumption is that it uses the Asobo Garmin GPS - can you also put that community modded Garmin in there? (it really is a lot better)…
The Sim Skunk Works Fiat G91. I’m really liking this one. I have to say, it is IMHO of much higher quality than the F15, and at a much lower price. It is quite a handful at times, especially if you get too slow.
Yep, it does…
…and the mod works very well (pity it does not crossfill )
Thanks for the tip!
How are speed and view compared to the mb339? What liveries are included?
Speed is pretty much the same really. 450-500 kts on the deck. The drop tanks and stores add drag though, at least it looks like it from the loading app. I haven’t thoroughly tested it yet.
The view is good, although the pit is cramped in VR (probably realistic). It is no F16 though!
There are quite a few liveries, including a couple for the GAF, along with the Italian AF and Portuguese AF. There is also a US Army test livery. I’ll have to research that one.
I’ve sat in a real G-91 cockpit and I can confirm that it isn’t exactly spacious.
Another impulse buy… the VGP Power Solo… ($15 from the Simmarket store).
I was tempted by this one when it first came out, but I refrained from buying it as it looked to be a bit substandard. This morning I watched a couple of YouTube videos that said it was a lot of fun if you could just get past the graphics…and well, they were right, it is a lot of fun! It needs almost no runway for both takeoff and landing (stall speed is about 25 knots). Having said that, this bird is not a Mike Patey creation in any way. It is far from over powered, and it will bite you if you try to horse it around close to the stall. You won’t be powering your way out of trouble.
Hopefully the developer will continue to refine the aircraft. I’d like to see some weathering, and maybe some engine vibration but for $15 you can’t go wrong. It’s really great in VR.
They forgot to build half of the plane!
That’s the perfect commuter aircraft to get to work for me! I can take-off in the street and just land on the hangar roof!
No coming back home with the southwest winds we have here though
So, this one I had dismissed as being simply another ultra-light…but after yet another YouTube marathon, my interest was piqued. The Bleriot XI by developer Wing42 is anything but just another ultra-light. It’s a handful from the moment you remove the chocks. It took me several attempts to get this beautiful deathtrap airborne. Fully laden you will be struggling to climb at 100fpm in the earlier model with the 25hp Anzani engine. The later version has the 50hp Gnome engine, which should be a little more spritely (I haven’t flown that one yet).
The cockpit view shows a delightful tangle of wooden fuselage structure, engine mount, fuel tank and bracing wires. The lack of any instrumentation (not even a compass) is a good indication that this is going to be a ‘seat of the pants’ flying experience…
Close up of the engine… lovely detail, and you can even see the combustion in the cylinders.
It’s not exactly a small aeroplane when you consider it only has a 25hp engine…
Takeoff can be exciting, for all the wrong reasons, but once you are airborne things become more manageable. You can’t relax though, you always have to fly this aeroplane because it isn’t particularly stable. There is no trim, so that makes you work as well. But she’s quite lovely!
I had to laugh at the stick… it looks like a simple piece of piping.
So, I’m thinking this would be a hoot if we could get a few of these up together for some formation flying. I’m sure it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea though.
That looks fantastic - do you have a link for it?
(googles) - here it is, nice!
