MSFS - Screenshots

You really cannot for that price.
It is a good addon for 10 bucks. I’d be sad if I bought it for 20 bucks.

In short:
The system modeling isn’t terribly deep, the animations are a bit… “FSX-ish” and the sounds are… not quite there. The textures could also be a bit more high res.

Nothing severe, it is fun to fly, especially low level. I just had expected more I guess. I am spoiled.

Continuing my “Around Germany” Series.

There was some new freeware scenery for Sonnen (EDPS) recently released. I’ve always loved flying out of there. In the middle of nowhere. The same scenery designer previously made Vilshofen (EDMV), a nice little airfield along the Danube.

I started my flight at Sonnen. Sonnen is an interesting airstrip, in that there is a steep decline, which leads to a quarry. You really don’t want to overshoot the runway here.

Instead of taking a direct route to Vilshofen, and went a little south and went along the Danube a bit. I reached Passau, which is at the intersection of the Danube, Inn (think Innsbruck) and Ils Rivers.

There’s a small airfield a little out of the way, but kind of on the way to Vilshofen. I decided to check it out, as I like flying over fields and the countryside. This airfield is Fürstenzell. I wish there was some MSFS scenery for it, as it would complement the other sceneries.

Once I got my fill of the countryside (read: natural and unnatural fertilizer), I got back aboard and resumed my journey to Vilshofen.

Here is my approach to the airfield.

After I’m parked, I can enjoy the sights of the airfield and town.

Had to try the Ercoupe. A fun little runabout. Not sure how she flies compared to the real thing, but a nice, docile puddle hopper in MSFS. Many of the surfaces, cowlings, and even the tail vibrate in the airstream convincingly. Textures are nice, though not overwhelming. Maybe a bit too anodized Aluminum rather than gloss painted Aluminum in the finish, but I imagine that can be addressed in repaints.

More 146 goodness before the PMDG 737 swamps this thread…

A short hop from Bristol Lulsgate to London City. I have some work to do before I get to the point where I feel competent in it, but I got from A to B without bending anything, which it always a plus

The Autopilot at times can be… frustrating, specifically with the VS mode and SYNC. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or just a mode I’m not fully understanding but it’s pretty easy to screw that one up.

But I’m really enjoying it! Although yes, the PMDG releasing today will definitely shift my focus to it for a while.

I find the AP is a bit wonky in general, tbh. I don’t know if it’s a trait of the real plane, but it doesn’t turn very well. AP constantly misses the turn and has to zig zag back to it. I almost had to hand fly the ils it missed the turn by so much. Was pretty close to runway before it was back on track.

A shiny new 737 freighter at Renton ready to be ferried up to Anchorage for Alaskan Airlines…

Quite a few ‘green’ airplanes on the ramp here…

The runway isn’t very long. Lets hope the perfomance calculations are accurate…

I guess they were…but with 27000Lbs of fuel there wasn’t a lot of runway left when the wheels parted company with the ground.

Headed in generally the right direction.

Cruising along at FL360. So far, so good. I’m a few hours out, so more to follow in a bit.

Beautiful screens guys. Looks right of the line at Everett.

Well, unfortunately I had a CTD shortly after reaching TOD…

Still, it was primarily a learning flight so I guess it was all worthwhile.

For years I have refrained from buying into Navigraph because I have a worldwide Jeppessen subscription on my iPad for work…but I figured it would be a nice thing to have for the 737 and BAe146. I should have done this a long time ago. It is so nice to have the charts integrated into the sim.

Almost there…

Coming up on Anchorage… looks like plenty of activity in this area.

A nice shot of the airplane moments before the CTD  :astonished:

Doh! So far I’ve only had one CTD and that was taking the runway when I tried to start the clock. There was a slider button somewhere that I clicked and boom - gone! That’s it so far, although to be fair my flights have been fairly short at around an hour.

So far I’ve been very impressed with performance. On my machine it does better than the FBW and on par or better with the CRJ and BAE. That said, so far I’ve just done offline and with no ai-traffic. I’ll start testing both of those soon but overall I’ve been very happy with the PMDG thus far.

A successful hop from San Diego to San Jose in the BBJ…

Signature Flight Support off to our left (where I usually park the Global when I am at KSAN)

Slipping the surly bonds with the San Diego skyline in the background.

Passing by the City of Angels.

About 45 minutes later, Monterey Bay…

Descending into Silicon Valley

On final to 30L.

Touchdown, reversers engaged and spoilers out.

Parked at Signature. I’m probably blocking half the ramp here. The BBJ is a good bit larger than most business jets.

Ok, I’m a sucker for high fidelity modules like these. Traditionally I’ve always leaned more towards Boeing products for this class of people mover but the FBW got me interested in the Airbus way and seeing the Fenix team convinced me to drop the cash to buy their A320. I haven’t looked back since.

The attention to detail on this aircraft, especially for the price, blows me away. I’ve been a PMDG customer for about ten years, and still love their products, but the Fenix is pushing the standard for what’s expected for a $60 aircraft. I really hope other devs are taking notes on what a quality team can do and I sincerely wish the Fenix team the best.

I will say this: My system, in general, is CPU limited for MSFS. Fenix uses your CPU to render the displays by default, and the A320 is noticeably less smooth than the PMDG (for me). Not so much that it isn’t enjoyable, but enough that it is noticeable.

Anyways, enough yapping. Screens to follow below.

Seems like good weather for my third flight in this…

Definitely breaking out Navigraph for the moving map.

Neat effect with the lights.

I still need to figure out how to use the camera system properly but it sure is a pretty sim.
I’m really impressed with how the engine handles light (scattering, relfections, etc)

The MSFS flight model might not be quite to XP11’s standards (although certainly not as bad as some might have you believe)…but the visuals are a huge part of the overall experience I think. It’s more than just eye-candy.

For the first time in months, I have been spending some time with XP11 after buying the Challenger 650 and I have to admit that it looks very bland in comparison. I got the Challenger 650 purely as a systems primer to get me ahead of the game with the avionics, and as a refresher for the general flows used in the cockpit. For this it is absolutely amazing…but I really wish it was a MSFS airplane right now.
