I have to say, I wasn’t expecting this! It is surprisingly well done!
I need to read up a bit on how to fly the Darkstar, but you have to follow a profile to get her up to speed…
Once you get up there and transfer over to the SCRAM Jet then things things start happening quickly…Mach 9+ quickly that is. I flew from Edwards to Austin in what seemed like the blink of an eye at about 250,000 Ft. I used up all my regular jet fuel though, so the landing was deadstick.
The Earth is definitely not flat…
Those clouds are a long way down there…
Now in a glide, setting up for a landing at Austin Bergstrom (above the vertical stab)…
You can’t see directly ahead but you do have synthetic vision. The Glide is looking good.
I had to blow the gear down…but at least that is an option.
Touchdown…right on the centerline.
Unfortunately the brakes were not up to the task of stopping me before the end of the runway, but at least I got it stopped.
For this alone the Top Gun addon is well worth downloading. I have made a couple of carrier traps too…not bad at all…and the carrier does move, which is great news for the devs who have put out carrier DLC in the past.
noice, now I know how to complete Lewis & Clark expedition without delay
MSFS 2020 makes a pretty good vacation pre-planning tool. You can check out roughly what you’d see before you even get there to see if it’s worth going to an area or not.
What a good idea
I flew over the last few places where I spent my vacations and MSFS really gets the main characteristics right, so yeah, that works.
Ahaha I linked this post to my wife and she perked right up. This might be what gets her into flight simming after all
I did my first flight in a while, downloaded the Darkstar and did the guided hop across the US.
Pretty fun. Also a pretty good way to fast-track a boring oceanic leg on the Xmas flight
Yes, but what is its cargo carrying capacity?
Mm, fair point - I am confident I can stuff 2 sixpacks of Garage Project APA in that cockpit on first leg from Auckland.
I reckon she can get me to Perth or Darwin or Port Moresby, somewhere like that, depending on our destination. I can then pick up something slower with more cargo space from there
I think the payload is 400lbs.
Obviously I had to take the Darkstar down to a supersonic canyon run, because why not. She doesn’t like doing it much!
Ahh found a DLC of my hometown Naples, FL. airport… and pretty accurate layout including the big US Flag on the side of the square tower. (And live weather shows the almost a hurricane storm just moving out to the East from the West.)
The BEST livery. I adore southwest
noice … was that SA map ?
