Mudspike GC - 2021 Season

Alright @Keets…! The Yeti Redux is now scheduled…! I mirrored the exact same conditions as the original event - and surprise, surprise…my First Round was an exact mirror of my miserable gameplay…! In fact…one stroke worse…so that sounds fair enough! Apologies for letting that event expire on us and for taking a few weeks off. I should be back into a normal routine of being able to play weekly events. This event ends on March 30 (probably midnight on March 29 maybe?)…so five or so days to get in the rounds. Look forward to seeing how you do on that windy first day!

No need to apologise at all!! I enjoy our friendly rounds. If we need to break, it’s nice to know we can. You’ve also had proper RL issues to worry about. :slightly_smiling_face:

Looking forward to getting back to it. I took a break from simming and PC golf as we’ve been lambing here and I still have an IT job.

It’s been early mornings split with Mrs K doing the late shift, so no time. That’s calmed down and we’re almost done, so your timing is perfect.

I did play one round the week before we started and it was horrendous, so the yeti may have the last laugh.

Hope you are feeling better and the coughing didn’t impact your putting.

Oh I’ll be good. No coughing for me fortunately!

The good news is - Kai wanted a new X-Box controller for his birthday (a red one) so I got it for him. But for some reason it glitches slightly with his BlueTooth connection - but it works great on my PC. So I got a nice new controller. Going to give it a whirl with American Truck Simulator too…

Looking forward to playing some rounds. That first one was windy!

Wow… that first round wind coupled with being rusty… brutal.

+10… game on.

I think I shot a +2 on the 2nd round…so better…but room for improvement. I actually found my son’s “new” red X-Box controller is not very good. It hooks up to Win10 via BlueTooth and it is terrible…disconnecting mid-swing…mid-aim. I ordered a wireless adapter for it so hopefully that solves it. He didn’t like it either (same problems with his computer BlueTooth) so he is using my “good” old controller.

Even par Round 2, so 1 shot ahead. Much better round, but it’s like I am using plastic clubs wearing boxing gloves.

My ability to read the greens has gone. :joy:

Timing the drives is shaky as well.

Yeah…one of the par 4s was a long reach for me on the second shot. And that one par 5 with the water on both sides will not be very accommodating of an off-axis swing plane.

Round 3 … oh what a shocker. +6.

The thing is it felt like I was playing well, then had 3 awful holes in the back 9.

I’ll do the last round tomorrow, loving it. This is how I felt in RL retuning after golf was closed during the first lockdown.

I think I’m only a few holes into Round 3 and then I had to stop playing until I can wrestle a better controller away from my son. I can’t remember how I was doing but it wasn’t great. I’ll wrap up Round 3 tonight and probably 4 tomorrow. I was definitely out of the groove these first few rounds back. My putting in particular had horrible front/backswing tracking…I was having my forward swing go all jaggy off to the side and missing 2 and 3 footers. Ugh. I love it.

Final round was interesting… I ended up +1 for the day, with 4 birdies. :man_facepalming:

With the weather on this round, the course feels nice and encourages and rewards sensible play. The moment you go “Tiger”, it bites you. I’ll leave you to work out which 9 holes that happened.

Yep…I went “DeChambeau” on one of the par 4s and tried to rip it over and around some trees with a slight draw. Yeah…that didn’t work out. Was lucky to salvage a par when the second shot twanged off another tree, but landed in the fairway and a scramble up and down saved the par.

Round 3 - you can sort of see where I resumed playing with my old controller after hole #5 - I settled in a bit.

Round 4 - I had a slight lead throughout the round. Being up 2 or 3 strokes on the final round I think feels like MORE pressure than scrambling to catch up. I just knew I was gonna screw it up…but somehow I didn’t get the yips on my swings. I tried to play conservatively and lagged a lot of putts. Fun rounds - I’ll put something else up on the schedule tomorrow!

OK. I’m really (really) really sorry about what I’m about to do to us…

I booked us for four rounds on the unforgiving, terrible, punishing, rage inducing, controller throwing…PREDATOR…!

In a truly epic bit of poor decision-making…(LOL)…I even made the last round the gale winds and firm greens.

Please play a practice round! I shot 94 or 96 or something on mine.

So Round 1 - I was thinking as I made the turn at the front nine…“ah…this isn’t so bad…I’ve totally oversold this as being a difficult course…”

Confirmed by my birdie, par on the back nine…then…the hot dog I ate at the turn started to make gurgling sounds in my belly…

Firm greens so broken in these games. One step away from concrete.

This was a pretty benign course conditions day (Day 2). I should have scored lower…I missed some easy chips and flops that I was a bit lazy with and didn’t take enough of the tiered greens into account. I think an even or -2 round on this day is possible. Though with a misstep, a +8 round is possible too… Just happy my card didn’t have any zany numbers on it (like double-digit ones…)

Oooph…it only takes one hole to really hand you your butt…! I had a real Tin Cup moment on #3. I was on the bottom right tier, just on the fringe. Trying to hit a very short loft onto the top tier. First attempt went long…dribbled over the hill…sploosh…into the water. Second shot, I took some off, added some backspin, it hit the top tier…but not high enough, it rolled back down the green, curved to the left, and put itself exactly where I was. Sigh. Next shot…did the same thing.

It is a LOT of fun. And it is quite pretty. Each hole requires some careful analysis…which is fun…and has to be combined with pretty tight ball placement. It is hard. But a fair hard if that makes any sense. Round 4 though…I’m anxious…
