Yeah and I need to figure out why the rockets were aiming so low. (Or rather why I was firing so short). I thought maybe it was some conflict between CPG and PLT, like coop mode. But that wasn’t it.

I wonder if i need to be lasing to get an accurate distance to target

Yes, definitely. If you’re not lasing, the rockets will use the distance set on the weapons page. Either a manually set distance in ft or auto. Keep in mind that “auto” is simple triangulation via line of sight and radar elevation so any change in terrain elevation will throw the solution off.

If you use coop with the George AI he will automatically lase for you, if you are playing with or as CP/G he/you will need to WAS rockets and lase the target. The pilot will then get a firing solution in his sight.

For me, rockets are quite accurate in Auto. About the same as the Hind. And like the Hind, they are “close enough” when fired at any range within the rockets envelope. What was happening with us was that the rockets appeared to be fully depressed. I might not have had the sight select in PLT.

Where I think a proper laze range would be handy, with TADS as the sight, would be with the nose up artillery-style launches.

On flat or almost flat terrain auto will definitely be reasonably accurate, however once you have significant elevation differences you’ll have to shoot and then correct if you’re in auto mode. In really mountainous terrain it can be extremely impractical to use auto as a result and you always have to be fairly close to the target which might put you inside the effective range of the enemy.

In coop mode on the other hand you can lay down very accurate rocket fire from a distance of about 2-3NM. It’s a huge difference in terms of safety for you and the effectiveness of your rockets.

I had a very intense AH64 experience this morning. The rotorheads server just keeps getting better! Anyway, the sun had set and the battle had moved just north of a major city. The two sides were mixed. I had the PNVS displayed and was beginning to learn to train my eyes to switch focus to and from the display. I found that I could use the free eye for depth perception around the city and the augmented eye to find infantry and vehicles. It was quite a thing to witness and a rare moment where I felt like I was experiencing a realistic taste of how it feels to use that machine in a close battle.

I have spent my 2nd day of Covid making the 2nd of my missions I mentioned earlier.
Not quite Jugroom fort but still an attack on a C2 complex and barracks/R&R for the taliban and Al Qaeda

Helmand Province Afghanistan 2007

The main enemy forces along the Helmand valley have been forced North.
Today we will be making a strike behind their lines and attack the C2 centre at Garmsir. The entire Restricted Operating Zone is a virtual free fire zone. The entire populace have left due to the harsh treatment by Taliban and Al Qaeda forces. We have humint that a Chechen expert has been brought in with a vehicle mounted ZSU and is suspected of being in the Garmsir box.
An A10-C II is available for AFAC duties if required.
A flight of UH-1H from the US Marines have been allocated to lift 2 Companies of infantry to the ROZ as the ground assault element.
1x Canadian Mi-8MTV for troop transport
2x Afghan Army Mi-24 troop transport and CAS
4x US Army AH64D will provide CAS and also use Hellfire to destroy enemy infrastructure including the C&C building NE of the Football pitch. East of the pitch are also 4 accommodation and teaching blocks that must be destroyed by Hellfire
Once the primary buildings are destroyed the Apaches will support the ground push and destroy any vehicles or troop concentrations
A 155mm Paladin troop will fire a pre-emptive salvo at 04.30

I’m extremely sorry to hear that you have COVID Cib, but on the other hand, that scenario sounds pretty damn compelling.
