Aah… Brings back memories.
But I was disheartened to hear ”Grippen” in an official SAAB video :roll_eyes:
Either you pronounce it in Swedish, with a long ”i” or use the bloody english word, Griffin. How hard can it be?

EDIT: then again, I just like the quirkiness of most things French. We had a Renault for a bit when I was a kid (back when they were still importing to the States), and I thought it was one of the coolest cars ever.

But I would be VERY happy if we were to get the rest of the Dassault cold-war and later lineup featured in-game.

I just can’t get over the nervous twitchy throttle jinking they have to do to get that bird back on the deck.

It seemed a bit too much to me also. But even driving buses I see that at times. Under stress some pilots need to constantly move stuff. Often the input lag means that quick inputs cancel each other out and much of all that “busy-ness” has no effect. Or it could be that those old motors need sharp treatment to have meaningful affect.

Stirring the pot. I see this sometimes with guys on the throttles of our planes. We don’t have autothrottles or FADECs, so everything is manual. The Ultra has a slightly annoying feature that is eases your rate (or pitches is a more appropriate description of what happens) as the trend line crosses into Vmo or Mmo. We have a guy that loves to ride the redline throughout the descend via procedures and it’s a maddening stair step cycle of pitch, bleed, ease the throttle, pitch the other way, throttle the other way, hit Mmo again, pitch, bleed…wash rinse repeat. It’s like riding a long period ocean swell…lol…maddening. And for what? So we can do 292 on the button instead of one throttle placement that nets you an unattended, steady speed of 285 or 280. That 7 to 12 knot difference going to get our now airsick passengers there 60 seconds earlier? :rofl: :nauseated_face:

It could also be that that is just his control loop at work, a way to force yourself to not put the throttle in some place and forget about it. I find myself doing a similar, yet not so violent thing when tanking with the Viper. I have to constantly move the throttle to keep myself in control. Once i stop, I drop out of the box one way or another.

Same as the punch and jab routine that people use on the rudder in taildraggers. It keeps your control lag a lot shorter.

I seem to recall another video of a Super Etendard on carrier final doing the same thing (unless it was the same video and I just forget)…it could be a positive control thing, like sobek described. Either way I can’t say I like it, feels very anxious!

Cool gun, but I stayed for the old-school small wing cool slick cockpit AV-8A Harriers. I know the bubble canopy and the bigger, supercritical wing on the -B/GR.5/7/9 are more effective but nothing beats the looks of an old Harrier. I bet I’d like the flying better too in a sim: I don’t like operating too many simulated computer systems on my computer.

The AV-8B is one of those modules that I do believe are amazing, but I already have too many of those and it’s just not the right version to get me too reserve some of my setup’s limited BRAM (Bio memory) for its operating procedures. If we get a Harrier I in DCS though…

Honestly I find the DCS harrier to be relatively uncomplex for a full fidelity module. Weapon employment can be almost arcade mode simple for 90% of the different ordinance.
