Bummer. Auto-throttle is meant for the approach. It allows you to do altitude/VSI corrections and AOA changes with just the stick, keeping the jet on speed.
I know this may be sacrilege to the DCS crowd…but if you have the VRS Superbug, in FSX/P3D, take it out for a few touch and goes - runway or carrier - using auto-throttle, and you will see what I mean.…a significant difference.
IMHO, this needs to be a priority fix for DCS.
