Its fine. I haven’t had time to indulge much, but the author is working hard on it, miltiple patches 3very weekend on the beta.
Agreed; haven’t played in a few weeks, but it’s getting there. For the price it’s decent enough. Biggest gripe to me remains the UI. At the end of the day it works, but it’s clunky and often lacks transparency.
Actually, my biggest gripe is that they didn’t call the title what it is at launch: an early access title. They are adding new features and mechanics (eg. update about a month back added smoke screening), which is awesome, but labeling the game as release ready invites deeply critical reviews that are arguably fair, given how buggy and clunky it was, and in some ways still is. If advertised as an early access title, it gets my thumbs up, but as a release title, it’s found wanting.
That said, they’ve got a lead on task force admiral in that they’ve actually released something, so kudos! But at the end of the day I think the title stands to be overshadowed by other naval sims about to crest the horizon.
Let me state all that another way: if you’re salivating over the aforementioned task force admiral or even (like me) really really impatient to get a hold of Sea Power, War on the Sea can scratch they oddly specific “Generically named naval combat sim-light that doesn’t require reading a 600 page manual but is still fairly well grounded in reality and isn’t a multiplayer only tween curse fest like world of warships” itch.
Thanks for your feedback. I took advantage of the price discount and bought it yesterday.
I will also add that over the course of the Summer, modders have been hard at work and very successful at getting their way. The Tokyo Express Mod adds a wealth of new ships & tweaks that one would be sad to miss for a new playthrough. It’s all there, in the Steam Mod forum of the game’s discussion board.
Cheers!
