I’ve been keeping an eye on it for a while. I really wish we’d get back to SP being the default versus making everything social. I just find it to be a lazy way for studios to avoid programming friendly AI, and having any decent writing.
Yeah the devs confirmed it’s PvEvE.
So you’re there with AI or co-op with friends and you face enemy factions that are also battling amongst themselves
In The Forever Winter, players enter a maze of relentless PvEvE conflict, with various ever-present enemy factions fighting to achieve their own objectives. Squads of up to four players (or AI-driven squadmates) face off against (or sneak by) hordes of colossal enemies and loot the fallen in a desperate race to secure what’s left of Earth’s dwindling resources. Scavenge what you need, then be ready to run like hell or face an inevitably bloody demise. Building your arsenal over multiple play-throughs gives you a fighting chance against bigger and badder enemies… but you’ll never stop the war. You’ll never “win.” In The Forever Winter, winning is staying alive and returning home with supplies for your crew.
“Our work on The Forever Winter started out with one simple truth: war is hell. There’s a time and a place for the power fantasy of being a super soldier, but frankly, it’s been done time and time again,” said Miles Williams, CEO and Creative Director of Fun Dog Studios. “With The Forever Winter, we wanted to redefine victory as survival - ensuring that every battle is hard fought, and every defeat is a lesson learned. You’ll be rewarded for fighting smarter, not harder, and maintaining situational awareness in a world we designed to be as unforgiving as it is unforgettable. While your power will grow, you’ll always be a mouse in a maze, to survive, you’ll have to work together.”
It’s like 40K and Death Stranding had a ‘baby’… I’m sold.
I love the concept of no longer being super elite space marine out to save the day, but rather having to be the battlefield vermin trying to eck out an existence as titans collide above them.
Just so long as it’s not a griefing simulator like most other PvPvE games are - Sea of Thieves is a perfect example, I do not ever want to play that game again because you work hard against the environmental enemies to achieve goals only to have some special education reprobate sink my ship so I can’t get the treasure back to cash it in
Even if it turns out to be a pig’s ear, which I doubt now that I have read who the folks at Fun Dog Studios are. I like to support games like this that aren’t afraid to try somethng a bit different.
dont want to sound ignorant but it looks to me like Escape From Tarkov but in different setting ? do I understand the gameplay correctly ?
btw that we talk about that, Tarkov has the same concept, pay once, play forever … I mean till someone switch off the servers seems like this FW has this covered somehow, or am I wrong ?
I have been reading up on this and that is one of their inspirations. The more I read the more excited I am getting. It is going to be brutal, and more than just the setting:
Get killed on a mission. Bam, hard reset, you lose everything except for XP (there is a level up system).
Your base is persistent even when you are offline. e.g. log off with 7 days water and don’t log on again afor 4 days, you only have 3 days water left. Run out of water - Bam, hard reset.
Use a weapon, might as well be ringing the dinner bell. The bigger the ‘gun’ the bigger the response…
