Ooh gotta watch that when I am home.
Tweakers (a Dutch techie site) did a benchmark in MSFS 2020. Up to 12% more FPS compared to the 7800X3D, up to 24% more FPS compared to the Intel U9 285K.
Differences were most apparent at 1440p with ultra settings. They did a standardized flight in a CJ4 from JFK to Newark.
New CPU go brrrrrrrr
The performance improvement is more than I expected, for only a US$30 increase in RRP. I think we’re seeing the new 5800X3D/2600K/insert-your-favorite-revolutionary-processor chaps!
I also use that area as a benchmark in flight sims, but I usually take off from Newark and fly toward NYC to see if stuff pops in.
It’s kinda what I was hoping for after reading up about the architectural changes with this generation. The fact that they managed to increase the clockspeed and enabled overclocking had me quite optimistic but I still didn’t expect this much of a jump. For me it’s time to upgrade once they become available.
Incredible! Meanwhile I’m just happy that my 5800X3D is only 15% behind and still at least as good as Intel’s best gaming chips.
I’ll be only GPU limited for a good long while
Ah, America’s armpit!
Interestingly it seems DDR5-6000 is still the go-to… HWUB explains this is because the IO chiplet is literally the same one as Zen 4 (e.g. the 7800X3D).
Still, can’t complain about the performance!
Lucky I’m sane after all I’ve been through
(Everybody say, "I’m cool, " “He’s cool”)
I can’t complain but sometimes I still do
Life’s been good to me so far…

Some Linux benchmarks (non-gaming but still interesting).
The 9800x3d seems to hold up quite well.
Yeah, I’m waiting for it to become available and then I’m going to pull the trigger. Completely new rig sans GPU, I’ll keep my 3080TI until the 5000 series nVidia GPU’s drop
Edit: If you decide that you want the 9800X3D and not the 7800X3D then you can keep an eye out on geizhals.
any shops having it available will be listed here:
Same. If the price is not more than, say, 50 bucks higher than the 7800X3D then I’ll get it.
This is what I am going for, I know the mainboard is complete overkill but hey…
What’s the reasoning behind 96Gb RAM? Is 64 not enough anymore?
I’ve managed to max out my 64GB in Photoshop recently and who knows where DCS goes in future. Plus it’s still less than what I paid for my 64GB DDR4-3600 that I bought in 2021 so my reasoning is simply what the hell, why not?
Sounds pretty much like my usual reasoning…
With RAM, make sure you will be able to clock it to 6000 Mhz. It‘s not a given and there are no guarantees.
Especially odd values (not 16, 32, 64) need to be double checked. There‘s compatibility tables created by manufacturers. Asrock for example has them.
They way I understand it, and I might be wrong, is that the controller can work with 2 sticks faster than with 4.
That 96GB kit is supported with Ryzen 9000 CPUs, I already checked when choosing the RAM
Edit: Here’s the list. Filter for 48GB module capacity and corsair to shorten the list to a few entries
