Nintendo Game & Watch

When I was about 8 years old, my aunt gave me a hand held Nintendo Game & Watch ”Octopus” game. Nobody knew who Nintendo was, back then, but Game & Watch was an instant hit!
I don’t remember what happened to my original Octopus game, but I recall that we traded games when we grew tired of them. Recently I stumbled onto a game in very nice condition. It even had the original battery hatch and box. I felt overwhelmed with nostalgia, so I bought it.

It was smaller than I remember, like most things from childhood is.
It was a great feeling to play it again, more than 40 years later. My daughter tried it and thought it was pretty fun, even though she’s used to far more potent gaming hardware…

Wow!

This was my first game too. I didn’t even remember.

It was a Nintendo? Had no recollection on that either.

That’s a terrific find! Almost unrelated (But as a year-one Mudspiker I’m allowing it) I’ve worried that my wife is scrolling Instagram more than I deem to be healthy. So two weeks ago I bought her a Nintendo Switch Light and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I had no idea how she would respond to the gift. “Mind your own f-ing device usage and leave me alone!” would have been a perfectly reasonable response. Fortunately she loves it. She plays 6+ hours a day. Ahh the life of being an empty-nester!

If it makes you feel better, I actually bought a Switch 2 just to play the new Donkey Kong Bananza game… brought back so many memories from the SNES days with the Donkey Kong Country and Diddy’s Kong Quest. Even I am not immune to nostalgia
