Nostalgia

Came across a "A Little Flight Sim Treasure " while cleaning my basement yesterday.I remember these vintage sims were the reason I got into PC Gaming and were really a “Magic” time for flight sims. The Graphics(Especially Jane’s F/A-18) were really way ahead of themselves.
I feel as though we’ve come full circle and The Heyday of flightsiiming has returned,DCS,IL*2 and the development of VR have made this possible IMHO

Looking at that, it filled me with a deep nostalgic feeling… Remembering good days and lots of fun.
I still have my CDs. Maybe I should put them in a frame, and up on the wall…? It’s not like I’m going to use them again. I think a frame like that would make me feel good, as I glance at it.

Wow that actually looks passable as well! Maybe it’s the rose tint but that always was a great looking game.

Lower resolution + software acceleration = easier to get running. I had to get a no-CD crack for it and then run it in a window, but it still works fine. I use CH Control Manager to unify my HOTAS so I get all the controls right where I like them, plus it seems the game has native support for a lot of buttons so virtually all my buttons are mapped!

Nostalgia is a funny thing. It wasnt a flight sim but the first game I ever bought with my own money was in 1997 and it was called realms of the haunting. I currently have 4 hard copies of it and the GOG and steam versions as well. The box had some really cool gothic looking art and I have it framed up on my wall as well.
To be perfectly honest it wasn’t actually that great of a game but it really meant a lot to me when I was younger. Took me a looooog time to finally complete it. Great memories

Just a quick question @franze would that program work with my thrustmaster hotas? Or would you recommend anything else? This is a rabbit hole I appear to have fallen down and would like some advice if you don’t mind to make it as painless as possible lol.

I know I had Falcon 4.0 also…but I think one of my son’s friends saw it and asked if he could have it…kinda cool that sim still has life because of BMS

Apache vs Havoc…did that one have a Cuba campaign?

It’s specific to CH equipment, doesn’t Thrusmaster have a similar piece of software? I’d think it would offer the ability to merge your devices into one unified device for older software like this.

Yes, and you could merge the install with Comanche vs Hokum to get all theatres of both games as well as fly all four helicopters.

I looked but all I could find was driver support. I only ask because my cheap old flight stick is needing and upgrade… And I think the 16000 or the warthog might be getting a look from me. I’m struggling with precise flying like refuelling with my cheap hotas (not that it hasntb served me well its been fantastic for the price) as its getting sticky and showing its age a bit

Thrustmaster has a tool named TARGET that does what you need. It’s been iterated a thousand years, so should be OK. Better than the logitech equivalent at least. I don’t know, I never felt the need to get a PHD in computer science and programming just to make my joystick buttons harder to remember.

The 1600m and Warthog both have the same innards, but the warthog is made out of metal \m/ Get one second hand and give it some TLC maintenance.

Is that a relatively straightforward task @schurem? I’m no expert with electronics lol

Regreasing it is yeah. And that’s probably all it’ll need. Perhaps replacing a plastic ring might be good too and those are more fine mechanical tasks than electronics.

There’s tutorials on youtube, and the thing is built to be taken apart, switches replacable etc.

Did I mention yet the thing is made out of motherlovin’ metal? It is very much not a toy, but a weapon.

It was the £450 price tag that made me think of the 16000…but you may have a point. I’ll have a look see what eBay pops up with. This is a very expensive hobby isn’t it. Wifey gonna kill me lol
