ORBX customers..new version of FTX Central is out

It’s kinda nice…except all the greyed out boxes for scenery I haven’t purchased make my wallet hurt. I can resist though…

You can get it here: Central - Orbx

I’ve gotten confused with my FTX Central installation - how do I tell if it’s put textures in the right spots? Between my multiple FSX-SE installs and reinstalls (stoopid FSLabs Concorde X), I know I’ve changed directories, but I don’t remember what I set FTX to use, and I couldn’t find where the paths are set in the options.

Honestly I’m not sure…through the last few iterations of FTX Central the thing has always started up and did its thing with me only having to point to which install I wanted to mess with (P3D v3 and FSX:SE).

If you can bring yourself to uninstall it all, then d/l the latest versions and reinstall, beginning with FTX Central 2, things became a lot more clearer. I really like the new interface and direct purchase model. The revamped Web site is welcome too. I juse wish that they hadn’t killed the map page that showed all of the locations. That was really helpful. Now I have to use something like VFRMap or SkyVector to discover the airports and areas.

This might work…but yeah, odd that pulled the map from their site:

Nice. I had the link to their old page and didn’t realize that G Maps was embedded (even though it’s branded everywhere!). Very helpful.

Edit: looks like they might not all be there, for instance Friday Harbor, KFHR.

I must admit that I am not a big fan of the new interface. I still like to get “under the hood” and tweak which sceneries are running and which are not.

Alas the new interface is much like my new car - you open the hood and there is this big plastic thing covering the engine, essentially saying “don’t go any farther…you just won’t understand it and you will just mess things up”… it might as well say “Beyond here lies sea monsters”

Yeah…I’m worried that the new X-Plane 11 user interface will be limiting as well. Hopefully all the features are there, just buried under a slick interface… Sometimes cleaner and newer isn’t always better…

They insist that all the old features will still be there, you won’t lose anything you had in 10 due to the interface changes.
