I got the shock of my life the first time a bomber exploded in front of me in Il2 BOS. I was on a heinkels tail firing away at close range when the whole thing blew up in a massive fireball. Excellent modeling but I thought my plane in RL would be mortally wounded
Now I got to try that!
Here is some ridiculous mod I made. Iâm using the left throttle for Boost, right as Throttle and the slider as Prop pitch. To make it more trackable in VR, I ectended it.
The Stem is a plastic knife. The knob came from scrap plastic. Server packaging i think. I glued the two halves together. Its all held on w some strong double sided tape

Great idea

Typically, DCS WWII guides always end up going unnoticed (due to lack of community interest maybe?), but itâs sort of my favorite kind of guide to write since the subject matter is just so interesting. This one is really a âI did it for myselfâ kind of thing.
If those guides go largely unnoticed thatâs a real shame. They may not be as long as a Hornet guide, but thatâs just down to them not having a multitude of MFD pages. The incredible quality is certainly still there.
If nothing else, you have at least one heartfelt âThank youâ from me.
I cant tell you enough how much you contribute to my life and to hobbyists as a whole. Without your Chucky Guides there would hours of dull reading and youtubeing. No thanks!
Your guides bring a refreshing, energetic an Very to the point perspective to each module. I read the manual to the Jug cover to cover. Yet when I saw your release of the Chuky Cheesy Cheater Guide, I couldnât wait. I curled up with a cup of Java and got some wisdom out of it.
Ive been hoping for this and here it is! Thank You Mr. Owl. If you wrote a guide on making instant Mac and Cheese, I would read it Cover to Cover. For all you do, we are very grateful. You bring so much joy to so many.
P.S. Some of the screens on your guides are printed and attached to my fridge door.

Guys,
I keep trying to put a train together in ME. When I fly the mission, its not there. Are there WW2 Locomotives in DCS? How come I canât get a train to show?
There should be and Iâve seen them running across Normandy with civilian traffic on. I think theyâre still bugged for multiplayer, but thatâs the only limitation I know of.
Thank You @Franze ,
Its the DRG 66. I think it does not show up until you name it. I called it train one then it showed up. Had me a little play with it. The screenshots were terrible so I will spare you.
Must go try some bomber escort now.
Laters,
Maico
To put my money where my mouth is, I became a Patron. I absolutely canât live without your content. Wish I had done this earlier, but now I feel much better.
It was bound to happen. I jumped in the Mustang!! Big difference in performance and styles of fighting. The Mustang is refined, its precise and comfortable, its a Cadillac. The Jug is a sledgehammer in a bar fight. You are flying it 100 percent of the time. They are completely different. This did not keep me from loving the Jug. I went right back to it ( Sadist? ).
The Jug gives me something I cant put my finger on. Maybe its how busy I am flying it. Maybe its the way I feel when I âearnâ a kill. Take offs and landings are still a challenge. But they are not impossible and every good landing gives me a grin. Your brain belongs to the Jug from the beginning of your taxi till she is back in the stable.
I stopped using boost down low. Its got more performance without it. Its because of the parasitic nature of supercharged engines.
Up high i use the boost as Throttle. All this knowledge came from Chucks guide.
Over revving seems to give a good boost. Might not be possible when the engine gets updated.
I feel more comfortable wit the K-19 sight as time goes by.
The 190A/D is a good opponent. The 109 is a tough guy but you can still fight him by using your strengths. I extend a lot and use flaps.
The Jug is Fast, maneuverable and packs a punch.
The Jug is turbocharged, though. There shouldnât be a noticable waste of power using the turbocharger. A supercharged engine will still perform better using the charger as long as itâs not in a mode meant for high altitude, where it would waste power on providing more boost than the engine can handle at sea level.
Sobek,
Welcome back! The Jug is both Super and Turbo charged. Since the air density is high at lower levels the engine does not benefit from Boost. This system is tuned to produce big power above 10k feet. Furthermore the Parasidic nature of running the system uses up about 300 Hp.
WIKI âThe Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II-era fighter aircraft produced ⊠R-2800- 21 engine; used General Electric C-21 supercharger and had provision for water injection;â
So are you suggesting to use boost in a low level df?
Ah yes, forgot about the hybrid charging.
Boost means that you use a device to raise manifold pressure above atmospheric levels of 30inHg. The engine will definitely benefit from boost vs a naturally aspirated engine. IIRC the Jug handles about 50inHg of manifold pressure. That lets it put out much more power than the 300hp the supercharger uses up.
Donât forget guys that back then Turboâs were often called Turbo-Superchargers - they hadnât yet earned their own distinctive name.
Afaik from diagrams, it is just a large turbocharger (in todayâs nomenclature).
Today we refer to exhaust driven systems as turbos and mechanically connected systems as superchargers - typically due to cars.
i must admit, I was thinking of a whipple type supercharger like you see on top of a muscle car. No such thing here. uhmmmâŠ
Oh mate you didnât have to! Thank you so much!
My mind works the same way. But remember you basically have 3 types of superchargers. Centrifugal Turbocharger - Impeller driven by exhaust gas, Centrifugal Supercharger - impeller driven by mechanical means (belt or gear system), and My personal favorite the roots style like Whipple with the big meshing lobes. Love the sound of these the most. My brother used to have a F150 Lightning back in 04 that had this type. The whine was so throaty and insane. Oh yeah and then you have the coveted electric hair dryer turbo out of china.
I thinks its potato-potato on the nomenclature. Technically they are all Superchargers, this one being a turbo-supercharger. Could be wrong though.
I found this rather relevant video:
Seems as if the âBoostâ Lever controls manifold pressure from the turbo charger. It is recommended to use the full boost available from the engine driven super charger first before activating the additional boost from the turbo.
Maybe it comes with a penalty due to exhaust gas backpressure.
Maybe its just a precaution to prevent overboost at low level.
