PC parts and upgrades thread

Forgot my Costco membership ran out. Grabbed it on Amazon.

This is so weird. I think a buyer at Costco Canada is a simmer! Lots of sim racing stuff too.

@B12 Hi there,

Can you share your experience with the Buttkicker? I primarily fly in VR and I’ve been told the unit adds significantly to the immersion. Yet, I’ve also seen negative posts saying that it is more pita than immersion. I actually have one in my check-out cart but don’t mind some feedback on what to expect.

I understand mileage varies and people have their own personal preferences and biases, but I’m open-minded.

Thanks,

My man cave is eerily similar, though the Precision Bass and sunburst bass are 2 different models on my side.
Given this similarity, and the fact you seem a bit more advanced in your sim pit, I think you may know how I will feel about soms of the goodies I do not have yet.

How is the buttkicker? Does it provide enough precision to significantly improve your flying performance or is it just some nice rumble for immersion?

PS the abundance of headphones is also a theme at my desk, haha!

Since the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 P2 PSU I ordered, once again has been postponed as stock has still not arrived at the vendor, this time until 18/5 I have decided to cancel that order. It has been postponed 1 week, week by week since the beginning of April.

I have decided to order a EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G5 PSU instead, from a vendor where it is in remote storage stock. I should be getting it at 14/5.

The new system is running smoothly and very quiet. I am still catching myself thinking “Hey! Did I switch it on?” That is until the Blu-Ray drive does its initial spinup, then I am sure.

I have not stressed it yet as I am still using the old PSU and I don’t think that it is up to snuff with the new GPU.

New system specs

ASUS Prime Z390-A Mainboard
Intel I9 9900K CPU
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 AIO Liquid cooler
64GB DDR4 Kingston 2666 HyperX RAM 4 x16GB modules
CORSAIR Obsidian Series 750D Cabinet

ASUS RTX 3070 Dual OC
ASUS DUAL-GTX1070-O8G
1 TB Intel 660p SSD
2 TB Intel 660p SSD
2 x Seagate Barracuda 4 TB 3.5” HDD’s
1 x Seagate Guardian Barracuda 4 TB 2.5” HDD (This is to tall for the 2.5 stations of the Corsair Cabinet, so I use one of the 3.5 stations.)

2 x ICY DOCK DuoSwap MB971SP-B internal HDD docking stations with room for 1 3.5 drive and 1 2.5 drive. (I use these as I have had 3 x HDD’s killed by 3 different USB HDD docking stations, as they spun up the HDD’s to full speed as soon as they where plugged in. When a HDD gets way to hot, it makes a horrible (And very expensive) sound, when there is no more room for the moving parts.) https://www.amazon.com/ICY-DOCK-DuoSwap-MB971SP-B-Docking/dp/B007Q4EZEA
