When I fiddled with this I think I put all the ‘min’ values to 5 and the ‘max’ to 15. I was never really bothered by the trees (they are too big for sure though), and anticipating the patch coming up next week put the values back.
Couple of comments here … the guy in the video has an AMD 3950X which has 16 cores. I’ve stated that hyperthreading with this type of cpu is bad in the past and you can see how bad it is in the beginning of the video … some threads are at 100% where others are at 0%. Hyperthreading = terrible task distribution with high core count CPU’s in FS2020. Initially I though hyperthreading was going to be crazy good, but it’s not. I’m so glad he turned it off later in the video without actually telling the audience what he was doing. He just said he was setting the Ryzen Master software to game mode.
Secondly, he told us to globally set Power Management Mode in the Nvidia settings to Prefer Maximum Performance. This is a bad idea because you don’t want your video card to ALWAYS be running at maximum clock speed. Setting PMM to Adaptive is the perfect GLOBAL setting. Set Prefer Maximum Performance on a program by program basis.
His other comments were good!
EDIT: I can’t believe the guy skipped right over Ambient Occlusion as a framerate hog!!! It’s a biggie! I always set it to OFF. Ambient Occlusion just casts more shadows based on ambient light exposure and it gobbles up your framerates like crazy. It’s especially important to turn off AO in first person shooters as you don’t want to catch opfor hiding in the shadows.
Awesome stuff. Yes i didnt follow that advice about power management mode in general but did set it in a profile for MSFS. When I’m playing MSFS my monitor shows CPUs right against the stops and RAM at about 60% (and I’ve only got 16Gb).
And within 20 minutes of my first flight today, what was in the google search bar?
“MSFS long loading times”…
…here we go…
What happend to the post about this “mod” that should push the fps in the glass cockpit ?
It did look to good to be true for me so I did not touch it and will not provide a link for now. Sounded a bit fishy to me. But what happend with the post in this forum? Think people need to be warned if they shouldn’t use it. (to easy to find other ways)
update: ok found it in the avsim form… don’t bother
“Several of the feed back posts stated that it breaks, freezes the vfr map. Use at your own risk I guess”.
It was removed at the request of the original poster.
I’m just gonna chill and wait to 24th September when the new patch comes out with performance fixes. I’m almost certain that most issues are not related to your hardware. I noticed that when I stopped tweaking the sim, the performance was still all over the place - one time I got nice experience, the other time the game stuttered and freezed like crazy. Even with the same plane and general complexity of the area I flew over.
According to the Road Map patch #2 is planned for September 24th:
Yeah when I read that he “looked at the source code” I decided to not download, I figured he had provably decompiled stuff and would get into trouble. Definitely a bit fishy.
