Yes, Willow is not a fan of fireworks.

Ralphie, who is deaf…not so much.

I think every yokel on streets around was lighting off every explosive they could get their hands on- Prince was shaking and whimpering under the guest room bed until almost midnight last night.

Sam breaks character when there’s lightning and thunder or fireworks, and disregards all of his training; determined to get into the bed with me, which is why my picture of him was so close, as he was pushing to climb up! :dog:

What a cute cat!
And that desk-cat-bed looks very cozy!
Someone in this house has been trying to get the cats on to her desk with varying success: they do come there for hugs but stay on their feet. She will be so jealous upon seeing that.

It’s funny: with the previous cat, when Pollux was the new one in the house, he absolutely adored her and wanted to get as close to her as was allowed, at the risk of getting a paw his way.
Now that Pollux is the old cat, and Eefje the new cat in the house, he switched roles. Now it is Eefje who tries to be close to him and he is enforcing his boundaries with threatening looks, sometimes even a growl or a paw.

The funniest part is that long before they were able to share a cushion or blanket, or even just lie down within 30 cm of each other, they were playing together enthusiastically. Weird jumps, tails up, clearly enjoying themselves and not angry. Begging to be chased with weird arched back poses and then switching roles, all that.

But it has definitely been getting better. Pollux has gotten used to her and is more forgiving while Eefje has learned how to “behave” around him. Now they lay in the grass up against each other and Pollux accepts the occasional over-enthusiastic headbutt without correcting her.

Here’s a better one, she’s literally dreaming right now with the adorable little twitches! Noortje kinda decided on her own that my desk was suited as a napping spot. She loves to sit in my lap and then do a few sniffs on the desk but never sits down, looking for a spot though. Hence I figured she would love a pillow there!

I remember that story about Pollux and the old cat! Funny how things turn around!

We opted not to get a second cat, Noortje used to live with another cat ever since she was a kitten but that one turned out to be mega dominant and suppress her character. She’s a constantly happy cuddly goofball right now which works for us!

That picture in the grass is adorable!

My best buddy cat likes small ornaments for some reason … and it doesn’t have to be a cat

but I think it helps if it’s a cat.

Nearly lost my little hellraiser last week …

ALWAYS question your veterinarian’s intentions. As long time multiple pet owners we’ve realized that most vets love to inject our pets with costly “vaccinations” (that may or may not cause cancer). They also seem to prey on our emotions when our pets aren’t feeling well and present us with +$1,200 estimates on ongoing healthcare.

Just get in, get their opinion, and get out. Use your own judgement. DO NOT send your pet in for x-rays or surgery right away. Listen to their opinions, take their pain meds and work out your next plan of attack over the next week. Our plan of attack was simply to take her off her neck collar and get her on a chest harness. The neck collar was putting stress on her upper spine (neck) causing pain to radiate down her front legs.

Problem solved. Cheers!

Glad to hear it worked out! Stuff like that makes me furious.

We have taken our dogs to several vets over the years. There have been a few, a very few, that clearly absolutely loved animals. But a surprising number have been very casual or excessively invasive in their care, especially if they could up charge for it.

Which I find odd. Being a vet always seemed to me to be a calling.

Absolutely! You’d think so but I guess they’re just trying to run a lucrative business. At this point, after many many years and pets, my wife and I have become very disillusioned and skeptical of all vets.

It started many years back when our first dog (Black Lab) got very anxious on Victoria Day (firecracker day). We were newbs so we had no clue about how some dogs get SUPER anxious about fireworks and thunder. We brought her into emergency that night and they acted like they’d never seen anything like it and had to give her x-rays. Are you F’ing kidding me!!! They were probably waiting for the next newbie pet owner to walk through the door and charge them hundreds of dollars.

Then there’s the incessant selling of tons of vaccines, heartworm meds and DENTISTRY! They love proposing that $1,500 dentistry regime. Are you serious? I’m supposed to put my dog under anesthetics every year to get their teeth cleaned?

Oh ya, and then we took our cat in to get a little bump on his head examined. She promptly squeezed the zit and charged us $75. Most expensive pimple ever lol!

Then there was this last incident … we really shouldn’t have been using the collar over the last 12 years we’ve had our Chihuahua … our bad … but the same zit squeezing vet pretended she’d never seen the problem before and proposed $1,200 worth of x-rays (radiographs) and bloodwork right off the bat! You should see our little girl now after only 7 days of declining the vets bullshite. She’s literally taking jackrabbit long hops when she gets excited LOL! Whole new dog. We thought she was a goner when she didn’t/couldn’t get out of bed due to front leg pain the first couple days.

Yeah, we’ve had similar experiences. I’m just glad your doghter is healthy and happy!

But this thread makes me laugh and warms my heart, so I’m just going to go back to dog pictures though I agree with you.

Willow in one of the few pictures where she doesn’t look like I’m trying to set her on fire with my iphone camera.

And Ralphie exercising his superpower. If this dog could speak, you know he’d have a dry wit.

Good on ya to have TWO little outlaws! One time I had two Labradors on my hands and I nearly broke something trying to deescalate a violent fight that erupted over a toy or something.

Ralphie’s ears are quite compact and interesting. What kind of dogs are those?

My “doghter” (I like that term) is running up stairs and doing full on zoomies when I get home from work now. I’m literally trying to get her to slow the F down. Everyone with small dogs here … get them off the collar and get a simple chest harness ASAP.

She looks pretty chipper to me! LOL!

Willow is half Treeing Walker Coonhound and half Border Collie…too smart for her own good.

Ralphie is Part Border Collie, part Boxer, and part “too mixed to tell”. Ralphie was born deaf.

It apparently suits him…he’s intensely loyal, but couldn’t give a wet slap about anything else!
