I tend to try and get thing done as quickly as possible but there are just some things I keep putting off. Especially things I feel are wholly unnecessary. One of those things I finally got done today. Lol, the HP Design Jet 120 printer has been waiting to be fixed since December 11 2021 it seems.
I bought the Printhead replacement for the HP Design Jet 120 and the HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g on March 01, 2022 so it only took me two years to the day since I bought the replacement part to fix the DesignJet. I fixed the HP8600 fairly shortly after receiving the repair parts since we have used that printer almost every day since the day we bought it.
My only defense for waiting this long is I thought the repair was going to be much more difficult to fix the DesignJet. Nope seems it can be done it about 11 minutes.

(Took me about 30 minutes so I am not quite as technically blessed.)
Now that I fixed the printer I am going to be the one that needs to keep what I consider a completely unnecessary unit functioning. In the 3 years we have had it, Jan 15 2019 to Dec 2021, we had only ran 216 documents through it before the print head failed due to the printers practically nonexistent usage.
Congrats on crossing that off the list! I wish I could say this sounds unfamiliar to me…
On the bright side, finally getting the thing done after a huge delay can provide a great energy boost that helps to get more things done, even if the delayed task turned out to be insignificant.
Failing that, I occasionally manage to activate the @Victork2 approach to time management:
Boy was I way off the mark with that statement. The ONLY thing that has went right was installing the new print head. I have yet to get it to print a document I sent from a computer.
Oof. Inkjet printers are some of the most frustrating pieces of equipment on the planet.
My girlfriend recently bought a laser printer. Canon, USB. It works marvelously.
I’ve heard good things about Brother laser printers too. One thing’s for sure: I’ll never buy an inkjet if I can avoid it.
I’ve used a number of inkjet printers over the years and they have all been pretty rubbish. I’ve dealt with the usual list of problems including leaky printheads, messy streaky printouts, inability to print in B&W because of lack of magenta ink, very expensive ink cartridges which only last a couple of months, printheads drying out if not used at least once per week, and of course the printer suddenly refusing to print any more as it reached some hidden predetermined number of print cycles / age.
However, for the last few years I have used the HP subscription service, and it’s amazing how all of these problems just disappeared. They send me new cartridges prior to the printer running out and each cartridge lasts at least six months of relatively heavy (but sporadic) business printing. The quality is excellent with no streaky prints, and the printer itself has reached 5 years of age with no signs of imminent failure. I am possibly paying a bit more than before, but not by much, and it’s been well worth it for the hassle it has saved IMHO. It’s funny how the impetus has changed from encouraging me to buy more ink / regular new hardware to actually minimising the waste and hassle so that I stay subscribed.
