Quest 3 - initial impressions

Still freaking out about playing pool in my living room. Right now it is just AI playing against me. I think I’d be creeped out a human player walking around my place…I mean…I get it…they’d be walking around THEIR place…but still… This is the smaller pool table. The big one doesn’t fit…

no doubt about that I would say.

my problem, last time I tried VR, was the non-motion sickness. I perceived it so strong that it even made me stop drinking for a few weeks

but I got it on the real sim also  even with the motion and force-feedback.

other thing is I have laptop with rtx3070.

seems like all things screeming ‘dont buy VR’

my single pro point was to try to get used to the non-motion sickness using VR because I am going to have regular check-outs in real sim.

so holds the argument still true, that you get used to it?

VR sickness definitely is something that you get over. The key is short sessions at first and then increase the length ‘under the hood’ gradually. The important thing is to stop at the first sign of feeling ‘off’. Also, while you are building up tolerance, I would avoid flying helicopters as they gave me the worst experience. So, start with something fixed wing and fly it in a gentle manner… and then build up from there. It won’t take long before you are not affected by it at all.

Hey Guys,

I been watching this thread and seems like you guys that have the Q3 like it. Now I currently have a Reverb G2 and was wondering would it be worth getting the Q3.

The one program I use I will have to Google it but not sure if it would work with the Q3, it is called Helixvision I will check the steam page but I think it said on the Helixvision page it will work with q3.

But my main concern is how well will it play with the usb cable it can use. I hear the charge will last a little longer using the cable, I have no need for the wireless part as I would probally just use the cable all the time.

I just wonder about how the image will look as I hear the Q3 will compress the image would it still look as sharp if not sharper then the G2?

Or do you guys think it was an upgrade from the Reverb G2 to thos that previoulsy had a G2… I really would like the Q3 to be a decent headset been not hearing good things about the Pimax stuff and besides the price is cheaper just wondering if the Q3 would be good for a couple of years use till something better come alsong and coming from a G2…

The thing about the Quest 3 that has made me not look back to the G2 is the pancake lenses. Older headsets, which typically had fresnel lenses, had these “sweet spots” where everything looked great in a specific spot and looking away from this sweet spot made everything a bit blurry. the Quest 3 looks great basically from edge to edge. This also makes it way less finicky to set up with IPD’s and what not (I must have spent more than 30 hours trying to tune the pimax 5k and never got it perfectly right). It is very easy to get right in the quest 3.

There’s some meta hoops to jump through but it is more bearable than WMR which has been nothing but a source of problems and is being binned anyway. I don’t have the link cable so I can’t comment on that.

ok I am trying to decide which cable to get. they have regular usb-c cables and some that are fiber optic. would it be better to get the fiber optic?

EDIT: I just purchased the headset and optical cable. I will let you guys know what I think of it after I get it… I am hoping it is better like what was said here the pancake lenses should be interesting…

Stupid question:

Where does the USB-C cable plug into?

Any USB-C port of the PC, or does it have to be the USB-C port on the GPU?

Did you get your free copy of Batman Arkham asylum?

any usb-c port of the pc they do not put usb-c on the nvidia gpu any more…

II had purchased a renewed version so I dont thing the batman freebie applies? :frowning:

It plugs in on the front right arm , if you are wearing the headset. I would recommend getting a cable with a 90 degree plug and a couple of Velcro cable ties…the cable I use was an Amazon special about £20 and that seems to work well and as @The_Nephilim says any usb-c you have available

hey guys, I was wondering if it is possible to wear my prescription glasses with the Q3. I have inserts on my old vr set, but I will need to go get my eyes checked and probally needing a new prescription, I then can get some lens inserts…

Which Prescription lens inserts are reccomended these days?

I know a guy…

Some say they got it with a renewed quest, some say not…

well I just looked and no mention of geting the batman game.

I wear either contacts or glasses depending on my mood. My glasses fit comfortably when wearing the headset. In my case, no inserts needed.

well contacts are out for me but wearing glasses will work that would be a plus… it appears I will not get the headset until next thursday the 5th dec. I get the cable tomorrow tho.

The glasses need to ride rather high up on the bridge of your nose to accommodate the faceplate. My eyewear are a fairly low-profile Warby Parkers. They happen to fit comfortably inside. YRMV.

After poking around on the Internets™ for a bit I settled on the Reloptix lenses if for no other reason that the people that were leaving reviews about them seemed very happy with them. BUT…they do have a long manufacture and delivery time. I think I’m looking at another couple of weeks before mine are delivered (maybe 3 weeks total)…and they aren’t the cheapest on the market. I’m an impulse shopper though…I often “know it when I see it” so I went with them. I’ll give a mini-review/opinion when they arrive.

FWIW - I have to wear glasses or contacts in VR. My uncorrected vision is like 20/200 or something…so there is no choice. That said, I’ve found the Quest 3 to be pretty accommodating for glasses. I have a tiny pair of glasses I wear with them…but my full size glasses work too. Even if I didn’t have glasses I would probably buy just non-prescription inserts to protect the Q3 lenses from any incidental scratches.

Edit: Just looked at my anticipated delivery date - December 13…ordered on November 21…so roughly 3-weeks-ish delivery time…
