It’s maintainer maaadneeeesss! Where’s @bunyap2w1 when you need him?
Interesting solution…
In VR I just look around the stick. But wat does this accomplish for the 2D user? Are ghost controls preferable over hidden controls? I mean, you don’t have to look at the stick to accomplish anything. A visible stick enhances immersion, the way I see it. More or less like a visible pilot body…
Will a ghosted stick enhance or decrease immersion? I’m not sure…
And that’s the beauty of an on/off keybind for things like this.
Oh, sure! Options are great.
I just wonder about the reasoning behind the decision to make a ghost stick as opposed to just hide it… Not sure I understand it.
Disclaimer: I have been known to not understand a lot of things…
After watching the vid I started to wonder the same. Seems like a bit of wasted time when the hide/unhide function already exists. If they had managed something where the mouse cursor causes it to become transparent when you try to reach something behind it, then that would be a different (and honestly cooler) story.
Aaah! Yes! That would’ve been really cool.
I see some discussion that the reasoning is visual feedback for maintaining bank or such, but my understanding is that amount of stick deflection to hold, say a 30 degree bank, at 250kts 15,000ft will not be the same as the amount of stick deflection to hold the same AoB at 350kts 22,000ft, no?
True. That would vary with speed and density.
In either case, I wouldn’t rely on visual confirmation of the stick position…
But ok… It could be useful to see if you’re moving the controls while you’re head down, looking at the center MFD. Maybe…?
This would make more sense in The WSO Position when You are busy controlling sensors and want to see your MFDs as well as Pilot Flight Inputs.
so you can see where the stick is?
Maybe the panels all open for those times where you get hit by stormtroopers trying to stop you from getting into the bunker?
Now that is impressive.
I can’t help feel that with so much going on under the hood (pun intended) this will set the bar for realism in a sim?
Brings me back to when (long time ago) Oleg was making his BoB sim and displaying weekly progress. I remember one update where he showed a working suspension on a ground vehicle. And I thought WTF.
No doubt that it comes with a piddle pack subscription.
I know right? Come back to me when it becomes “Month of the Strike Eagle” or better yet, “Week of the Strike Eagle”, even better “Adlertag!!!”
Rant Over
All those updates used to be hosted at the 1C, now the Fulqrum, forums but all the images and videos he posted are long gone now.
Plus even the remnants of the Oleg Ready Room forum that was hosted at the Ubisoft forums disappeared when Ubisoft shut down all their old game forums last year.
